Subject: 1996 Cassette Player IP: Logged
Message: Good Morning,
I have a 96 dakota as a second vehical and this morning when i got in it, the factory radio has stopped working. Nothing will turn on, the time is not even displayed. I replaced the fuse and that did not help. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can check?
Thanks

Message: there are actually two fuses that supply the radio. One is marked "RADIO" which is for the key-on feed. There's another fuse for the battery (constant) power feed, which is most likely shared with the interior lights. might want to check the rest of the fuses to be sure.

Message: Wow! The manual makes no mention of this, I will check it when I go out for lunch. Would something else be amiss if this "other" fuse is blown. I can recall anything other elctrical not working. Thanks so much for the help.

Message: Well checked the fuses and the box under the hood and nothing looks blown. Itlooks like Im going to have to get a new one, I havn't pulled it out yet but I have that feeling. I'm probably going to try one of those salvage yards where you pull the parts you need from a "graveyard" of junked cars. I need a few light covers as well, which raises the question...What other dodge models have the same factory AM/FM cassette player that the 1996 dakota has? Id like this info, just in case they dont have one from a Dakota. Thanks for the help.

Pretty much all of them of that vintage. The only exceptions I can think of are the Grand Cherokee and Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze. The two mounting "ears" on the radio were in different positions for those vehicles. Most others were interchangable.
