Message: Hey everyone. I fixed my alternator whine that I've had for awhile now, and my stereo sounds dandy now. I've got a 93 extended cab, and there are 4 5x7 speakers. One in each door panel, and and in each hole in the back below the pop out windows. I used to have a 6x9 in each door panel, until I got sick of my windows bumping them, (driver's window actually shattered a few weeks ago, and that is why I put all 5x7's in now.)
I'd like to hear what some of you would do here....I either want to buy or make two 6x9 boxes, and put them in my backseat, so they can face diagonally toward the center from the corners of the back..or just stay with only 5x7's and put a sub back there. Maybe a 12" or 2 10's. The reason I want to do either/or, is because as I'm sure you all know, the 5x7's don't quite feed me enough bass, and at least adding the 6x9's would help. But maybe the 5x7's are enough, and a sub would sound great? Thanks for the input!

Message: How much room do you need for the window to come down? If it is close, you could make some spacers out of plywood.
How did you fix the alternator whine? I have a little clicking sound from my tweeter. I think its becuase I used the factory ground?

Message: My 6x9's were in the path of the window by at least an inch. I got a hold of some matching spacers, but they're only 1/4"...I suppose I could get thicker spacers, but then the speaker would be visible cause it would protrude from the door panel. I guess I just wanted to avoid any hassle and pick up the 5x7's. Which sound great, I just need to either hook up my 6x9's in boxes, or pick up a sub.
I had the hardest time fixing my alternator whine, but I ended up finding a new ground for my amp and now it sounds crystal clear! No feedback or clicking of any kind. I know when I had my deck out, I redid the factory ground, cause it was so dirty, and we found a better place anyway...so maybe you could check it out. I also got rid of the ground going from my deck to my amp, that was pointless. Hope maybe that helps? I'm not much of an expert at all, lol.

Message: Definitely go with a sub. YOu don't need more than a 350 - 400 W RMS 10" with a properly matched amp to sound good, especially if it's hidden. If you want to show everyone how many big subs you can fit into your truck, then the sky's the limit.

Message: Thanks for the input guys...Here are some viable options I have. My friend Jeff, who lives right around the corner from me has 2 sets of subs he'll sell me. Both sets are 12's. One set is Alpine type S and they HIT. the other are those Infinity Kappas....How do you guys think 2 twelves would sound in a pickup? Or maybe just one? Or should I consider buying his friends 2 10's, which are MB quart. Not sure how good those are, but they're already in a box, and he's got an alpine amp with it.
