Subject: stock setup IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 1998 Dakota SLT Club Cab 3.9V6. It still has the stock Infiniti CD player. I think it is a 6 speaker setup up with 4 main speakers and 2 tweeters. Does anyone know the size of these speakers? I think I want to leave the stock head unit in, but was planning to amplify the new speakers...I just have no idea of thier exact dimensions...please help.

Message: Most speakers you're gonna want to install will be 6.5". One thing to keep in mind, you can choose to install a coaxial speaker in the front and lose the tweeters, or you can replace the tweeters by purchasing a component setup. Component will cost considerably more but offer better power handling and sound quality.
Also important to know, when amplifying speakers using the stock cd player, you'll need a line-out converter (aka high-low converter, etc.) which will reduce sound quality. It might sound ok to you, but you might also want to think about replacing the cd player somewhere down the line.

Message: If you get an amp that has high-level inputs then you will not need a line-out converter. Also, since you have the Infinity system, be sure to take the high-level inputs before the HU signal gets to the stock Infinity amp.
What 04Dak says about the components and sound quality still applies though. Whether it matters or not is up to you.

True, so you will need one, as you will get an amp, as in my eyes it
is pointless to "upgrade" anything without amping it in some way...
trust me, the difference is wonderful
(I got 300 watts RMS going to EACH speaker in my component set )
:) yuuuum

Message: Yes a amp will make it sound way better but its so not pointless to upgrade without it after market speakers sound so much better then stock with or with out and amp and then you can add a amp later.
