Message:
I have a few questions about the MTX Thunderform for the Dakota CC. 1) Does it fit in the 04? Its listed up to 03 but I have heard that it fits...anyone with first hand experience would be awesome to hear from. 2) What do you guys think? I'm very particular for sound quality and want the best I can get. If anyone can come up with some comparisons for me so I can get an idea. Just telling me that they sound good or that they thump doesn't tell me much. 3) If anyone lives in or near San Diego, would you let me hear it? The last thing I want to do is spend a couple hundred bucks for something I haven't heard and know little about in terms of sound quality.

Any feedback is appreciated...

the main reason i got mine was because it would be hidden from view. i'm sure there's a lot better enclosures out there for sql, but none better for a stealth setup.

they ship with newer subs now so hard to say what they will sound like, but i got mine with the stock mtx subs, and i added an mtx class d amp. it will push 200w max to each sub (my subs are rated at 250w max).

having said that, it should now be obvious that the enclosure is great for a stealth setup, but the stock subs are not great for volume or quality. rather, i would give them a "very good" for quality and a "decent" for volume.

dynamat or other sound dampeners would help me with volume and keeping vibration down.

better subs and amp would get me closer to a high end system, as would a better head unit.

for my needs/investment, its great. don't need or want any more.

you should definately check out some stereo shops that carry mtx and other brands to at least compare them outside of the thunderform.

if you come into the palm springs area you can listen to my system for a beer.
:)

250 watts max? so .. about 75 watts rms to each sub ( since max
watts means literally nothing...im assuming 75 watts per sub..)

I've heard a thunderform.. its a plastic enclosure, flimsy, subs
are the base of the base of mtx's line, whis is worst of bad, and
the airspace is way too small, leaving much to be desired sound
quality... It sounded horrible to me.

There are people out there that can build an amazing enclosure
custom for a few more than the thunderform...

this guy for example: his name is phil, go to caraudioforum.com
to get his attention or http://www.woodlawncabinetry.com/

I'm just saying, if you want sound quality, its not for you.

For the mainstream buyers out there its perfect, but still way too
much.. for my ears its not worth a dime.

ok, maybe it was 250 rms, dont really remember.

but yeah, not built for quality, built for stealth.

oops - i re-read the question and saw you want the best quality you can get. sorry.
definately skip the tform and go with the phil guy - i've also heard great things about him.

Thanks for the feedback guys...it was very helpful. Maybe I'll just stick with what I have and build myself a custom enclosure without worrying about being stealth. I do love my Type Rs...

Yeah, the Type r's are a good bang for you buck subwoofer. For
their price, they are hard to beat (besides my AV12's hehehehe)

Those mtx's would touch them, so i bet you wouldnt like that ;)

i just recently put a thunderform in my truck. i realy wanted a clean stealt setup so i went with that. i know there are custom boxes out there. if i was patient i might have gone with that. but either way i like how they sound, it has stock mtx in there now but i would like to upgrade soon. Anyone know of some Alpine 10s that will fit? I am in the san diego area by the way

hey goon...what do you think the chances are that we could meet somewhere so I could hear it. I know I already said that I was gonna try something else, but hearing for myself will make me feel a lot more comfortable about that decision. Send me an email and let me know...Jono_9@yahoo.com

Also, about an Alpine 10" that fits...it doesn't exist. But I have an even better sub for you. Its made by Diamond Audio. Its a shallow mount truck subwoofer. My roommate has em and they sound great. If you'd like, we could talk more if we meet up somewhere.

Image Dynamics IDQ V.1 is the best sub that can fit in that small

hey cj,

i looked up that sub, but cant find it on the image dynamics website. I only see the v2. How much do they run and where is a good place to buy it?

by the way, I currently am powering my MTX box + subs with an Alpine MRD605

The IDQ10 v2's will fit in the newer T-form design that crutchfield sells(unloaded) and theres even room to spare under the magnet. I have that setup in my truck with the alpine MRDM605 and to me the sound quality is great, it sure sounds a hell of a lot better than alot of my friends setups.

As far as finding a pair good luck. I just went looking for them at ebay and sound domain and couldnt find any. When I got mine they were plentiful on both of those sites.

As 01dak said, I know the v.1 fit, but i guess the v2 fits too,
even better.

I bet you will be able to find a pair... I am ASSUMING that they
are about to revamp their production line soon, as for the last 9
moths all of their products are hard to find, including all subs,
and their amazing components (chamaleons) that i did find on
the net.

If you want factory warranty, sounddomain is the only place
online, and they have no ID stuff in stock, so ur next best bet is
to go to a retailer, an independent one for sure. 3 around where
i live have ID stuff still.

Other than that, there were about 6 other website, wait, actually
5 that sold ID products, i emailed all of them asking if they had
the id product i wanted in stock, and all said no except one, and
i found it, u just gotta hunt, but of course i didnt get the factory
warranty with it, but rather the internet businesss' one i bought
it from.

If you want me to help u find a pair of 10 inch IDQ's i will, but its
finals week the next coming days, and it may take me a bit.

this is ur best bet, and for sq purposes its the best what u can
do with a t-form, which is un sq already, lol. Yeah it might be
better that your friends fart boomer, but it works ... i guess :/

I think my standards are too high though.

Sorry foy my typos, im sure i have many, but im wasted, and am
honestly too lazy to find and correct them all :)

If they are as good as everyone is saying, i would love a pair for my T-form. What about price though?

i work at a stereo shop, and i've heard the t-form several times. it is loaded w/ thunder 4500's which are one step up from mtx's bottom end. the built in amp is not good, it sounds much better w/ a bigger amp. the downfall is that the box is plastic, so it flexes at higher volumes. it is good bang for the buck, but you won't ever get great soun quality out of it. there aren't many subs that will replace the 4500's and sound good due to incorrect airspace. the best ones i know of are jl audio w0's. also dynamat on the inside of the box gets rid of a lot of the flexing and distortion at higher volumes. the shop i work at is in portland, OR and we can build a fiberglass and wood box for about $800 that will sound twice as good

Cool thing about the IDQ's, the yare damn cheap for being
supurb sq drivers... heres a taste:

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?
fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2032

Email them and see if they have them in stock.. the idq comes in
dual 4 and dual 2 ohm voice coil configurations, keep that in
mind.

I've talked to the owner many a times, once u get into it you get
to know all the owners of all the places and manufactures of car
audio lol

his aim is woofersetc1

i dont think he'd mind if i gave that out, everyone knows it lol

Since your amp provides mostpower at 2 ohm load, 600 watts, you
want to get a pair of the Dual 2 ohm voice coils... wire them in
series/parallel, to get a final 2 ohm load..

here is a link to see how

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161

2nd image down from top on the left that says "2 DVC drivers with
Voice Coils in Series / Parallel" is the one you wanna look at.
