Message: Max power doesn't mean anything, you need the RMS ratings.
Wait a minute, you have 6 speakers hooked up? That is likely your problem. What head unit (cd player) are you using? Does it have 6 speaker outputs or are you running 2 speakers off of a single output?

Message: i was running the 6x9's and the 6x8's off of the rear....it didnt screw up until i turned up the volume loud. anyways, I cant find anything about RMS so I am going to give you links to my head unit and speaker specs from pioneers website to see if you can find on there what you need to know to give me advice. Just an FYI everything is pioneer.

Message: The 6x9's are 40W RMS @ 4 ohms (nominal)
the 6x8's are 60W rms @ 4 ohms
the 5.25's are 40w rms @ 4 ohms
By paralleling two 4 ohm speakers you lower the impedance to 2 ohms, the HU cannot handle that at high volume and will overheat.
So, yeah, an amp will help your problem, you'll have to decide which speakers you don't want on the amp and run them from the HU. I would run the front components and the rear 6x8's off the amp and get a 60 - 75 watt RMS per channel amp.
Ohms are just as important as Watts, so make sure it's 60 - 75 watts at 4 OHMS.

Message: So what size of an amp do you recommend? I would like to stick with pioneer. I was thinking about 600W but what do you think?

Message: This one will work for you. I think it's a little cheezy that Pioneer still lists their amps by MAX power but when it comes to the majority of people, bigger numbers means selling more products.
This amp will give you 60W RMS X 4 at 4 Ohms.

That will also give you more options, like you could run the fronts off the amp front, and bridge the rear channels to give you 150 Watts for a single sub, then run the rears - 2 or 4 of them off the HU.
