Subject: sub cuts out IP: Logged
Message: new here just wondering if anyone knows y my sub keeps cuting out. have an 8" JL audio sub with an Alpine T-220 and a Pioneer DEH-6700 head unit {have to check that}. Any way the the sub works fine most of the time but randomly cuts out while driving sometimes. Head unit keeps playing and speakers still work the amps still on but the sub doesnt work. Message: My guess would be the amp is overheating. Make sure the airflow around it isn't blocked. Some amps do this if they're not warmed up too. Like, play music at a moderate level for 5 minutes or so before cranking it. Check your gains and bass boost settings, if they're both cranked all the way up, your ammp will be working significantly harder than if you have them a bit lower. Also the impedance is important. if you are running a 2 ohm sub, your amp will do that because that amp is not stable at 2 ohm in bridged mode and will heat up and shut off.

Message: thanx. the sub is suppossed to be a 4 ohm ill check the gains. proablly should turn them down think there at about 3/4 up. Cant do much about the air flow reg cab truck not that much space have both amp and sub behind the seat any better ideas where to put the amp for a better air flow. i think ur right about the overheating normally doesnt happen til after its runnin for a while. thanks again and is the anyway get my head unit more air flow seems to get kinda hot dont really no if thats normal or not did the same thing in my last truck to. thanx again

Message: check to see if the wires going to the voice coil are not arcing together or on the basket.happened to me.make sure the dont reach each other.usually the stiffness if the wires weaken over use,and tend to bounce aroundand hit each other causing the amp to go into protection mode.

Message: Check to see if you have a good ground. Nice thick wire, paint removed from mounting location and a short length, I had the same problem when I had some "pros" install mine.
