Subject: put in a new stock deck that plays mp3's
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a '01 dakota SLT that came with a stock cd/tape player and I want to be able to play mp3's but not lose my steering wheel cd player controls.

I have two questions:

(1) are there any stock dakota decks that play mp3's that I can buy from the dealership and install in my truck and still be able to use my steering wheel controls?

(2) or is there an aftermarket deck that is compatible with the steering wheel controls?

Any help/suggestions are appreciated, thanks guys.

Yes, there is one. The sales code is RAH, it's an AM/FM/CD/MP3 radio. I don't know the exact part numbers, but I think there are two, one with the rounded faceplate (which you need) and one with the Pacifica faceplate.

You'll also need a wire harness adapter kit, since the RAH will have the 22+10-pin connectors, and your truck has the old 7+7 pin plugs.

so is this deck for a 2001 or a newer model? All i have to do is call dodge and tell them the sales code right? I'm also curious if you would know what the price range would be. Maybe i'll see if I can find one on ebay.

I really appreciate the help....I really wanted to keep my steering cd controls working. How did you know by the way, did you upgrade yours as well or did it come with that deck already?

Thanks again JIM

I believe the mp3 deck came out in 05, not sure if it will work or not... might be a good idea to ask before dropping a couple hundred (probably a lot more for a new one).

I guess I'll give my dealership a call, they should probably know. I do hate having to spend the dough but it's a pain in the butt using my cd player that plays mp3's by using a tape adapter.

Thanks.

sort of. The '05-up CANBus radios (REF, RAQ, RAK, REC) all support mp3, but those are a different beast entirely. The RAH radio is the only older style which plays mp3, it was primarily a dealer-install option. the only vehicle it was a factory option in is the Pacifica.

thanks again, I emailed the parts department at my local dealer and he's not aware of any but he's gonna call dodge and I forwarded him your message. So basically we're taking a deck from a pacifica and putting it in my '01 dakota and keeping the controls intact. I hope they can do the install at the dealership for free.

No no, you do NOT want one for a Pacifica. The Pacifica has a different radio faceplate and it won't fit. You want the one shown here:
