I recently replaced all for speakers. In the passanger rear door panel there was a long bag of insulation laying in the bottom of the hollow wall.

Speakers sound pretty good but I was wondering if I could fill the rear wall panels and doors with some regular house insulation.

Would that help the base sound deeper? I know I could only fill the bottom of the doors due to the window but the rear walls I could really put allot in those?

Any danger or benefits with doing this?

CC or QC? Your post says CC, but you mentioned rolling down the back windows???

Anywho, you can fill the bottom section of the door, just don't stuff it so full that the window is going to have problems. You should stuff it with polyfill, not fiberglass insulation. Go to WalMart and spend $2-3 for a couple bags of polyfill from the sewing section.

If you have a CC you could stuff the entire cavity as the window pops out.

If you live in a cold climate you might want to put the polyfill in a bag, like is in there right now. If not the polyfill could get saturated with water, freeze, more water, freeze, and soon you have a block of ice in your door. The polyfill could also get saturated with water and retail moisture inside your door,,, RUST? I live in the desert, so I don't have to worry about this

Thank you DSW. Do have a CC was just talking about the windows in the front doors.

Would the poly fill be as sound deiting as insulation?

I live in NC so pretty mild but am worried about the condensation. Putting anything in bags is going to be a real pain.

I've heard fiberglass insulation is "slightly" better than poly fill for sound dampening. But that slighlty doesn't overcome the 3 days of itching you'll experience it you get fiberglass all over you. Also polyfill doesn't fracture, brake, splinter, fall apart like fiberglass does.

Fiberglass insulation is ol'school, now everyone uses PolyFill. Ii used to have a roll of fiberglass insulation for speaker boxes, but it was a real PITA to cut and then stuff into the boxes.

PolyFill is the way to go!

I would only be worried about condensation if water gets into the door and doesn't evaporate. Putting polyfill into the door will make the problem worse since moisture will have to evaporate out of the poly fill.

If you want some sound deadening in the doors you could also do to HomeDepot and get a roll of roof sealing membrane. Super sticky rubber on one side, plastic on the other. Line the doors with this and it will keep them from resonating, you will have to do 2-3 layers (1/4") for this to work best. It'd a poorman's Dynomat, but works.

I was thinking about filling up some of the cavity with that foam insulation stuff that you spray in there and it expands and hardens. Good idea or bad?

NO! NO! NO! don't spray in insulation. If you ever have to get into the door for anything other than the speaker (i.e. wiring, power window, etc.) your going to be fuc&ed.

I got closed cell, polyethylene underpad foam (Eco Foam) from Home Depot and glued it in the doors with 3 - 4 tubes of silicone per door, with an extra layer behing the speakers. The foam is very light so the silicone is for the weight and elastomeric damping, like dynamat. It worked awesome, sounds tons better. I've been thinking of using the 'great stuff' foam in the pillars though... haven't decided yet, there's nothing that I can see ever needing to go in there, so I may do it.

Hey fuzzball, how did you make out with the club cab pillars?

I installed my rear speakers yesterday, and it sounds aweful when I turn it up. There is way too much reverberation.

I saw some nu foam at the fabric store. It says its mildew resistant, fire retartant, etc.. and good for outdoor use. It's even got a picture of a boat on the package. But it costs 65 bucks for two big bags of it. I cant drop that cash unless I know its going to work.

I thought about just making a baffle around the speaker with foam rubber and great stuff. That might work. BUT what happens when I install my sub? I want to fill in the whole thing.

I also want to fill in the space on the back wall but there is some vents in there. What are those for?
