Where are you putting the sound dampener, floor, doors? Dynamat is some expensive chit and even though the Tsunami stuff might cost less, I bet it's still expensive.

When I installed my stereo I put several layers of rubberized roofing membrane inside the doors and any exposed metal I saw inside the truck. I have heard the rubberized roofing membrane can cause a foul odor, but I never noticed anything. I live in the desert where the inside of the truck can get up to 150-200 degrees in the scorching sun and if the stuff cause a problem I would have smelled something.

Your going to like this, you can get a roll of the rubberized roofing membrane at Home Depot of Lowes for about $15. Even though this stuff isn't as thick as Dynamat and you will need to lay down 2-3 layers to get the same affect as 1 layer of Dynamat. One $15, 12"x50' roll of rubberized roofing membrane will go a long way. Heck, I did 2-3 layers in all 4 doors and a bunch of other areas and still have a lot left on the roll.

Just don't stick it down where you don't want it. The stuff is SUPER sticky, but can be removed with paint thinner, not laquer thinner or acetone, cheap azz $3/gallon paint thinner.

The question is, did the roofing material do any good? Did you notice a difference in the truck interior and doors?

After the homebrew cold air intake, Dynomax muffler and 500W stereo??? Yeah,,,, the truck is louder than HE11!

Seriously, the roofing material did dampen noise. I mainly used it to dampen the speaker noise in the doors, but also put it anywhere I could stick it down. Every little bit helps.

That being said, the roofing material isn't as good as Dynomat or other sound deadening material, but it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either....

If I was serious about soundproofing my truck I would gut the interior and attack all the hollow dead spaces, pillars, rocker panels, etc, with urethane foam and flat panels with the roofing membrane. $100 of materials would probably make the truck as quiet as a Lincolnm (without a homebrew intake, dynomax muffler and 500W stereo)

Hey DSW, thanks for the info. Went to the box stores and only found 36" (3 ft) wide x 50 ft. rolls for $50+/-. Very thin but self adhesive. Is this the same stuff? Did you cut it into strips to apply it?

I like the stereo, so I don't want to hear the intake, exhaust or tires.

WHolly sheep sh1t,,, 3' wide! The stuff I have seen in my area is 12" wide, much more managable. I would keep looking, someone should have the 12" wide stuff. I don't know what you think thick or thin is, but the roll I have takes 3 layers to make 1/4".

Hey, DSW, you live in the Southwest...where it's hot and doesn't snow.... Is the stuff your talking about made by "Grace Roofing" (check out there web site) cuz we folks up here in the frigid north (northern Illinois) get ice buildup on the gutters....so, they sell the stuff 3' wide cuz the melted ice rots away our roof deck. You probably bought "Ultra" for a "Hot Climate" and it comes in 12" and 18" wide rolls. Our Lowes sells the "Ice and Water Shield" in 3' x 36' roll for $58.57, cut it yourself. But, I was reading and it had warnings about not having it in an occupied room or where people were exposed to it for long periods???? You haven't been seeing dancing elephants when your driving have you??? (just joking) Anyway your stuff is made for a hotter climate than ours. Thickness for our stuff is .040 according to the web site so 6 layers = 1/4".

I've got to wait until it gets warmer before I start to tear apart my QC and pad it. So, I'm doing my homework now. Work on the QC later.

Dancing elephants? Now that you mention it......

I don't know who the MFG of this stuff is, it was given to me for free ;-) I have read on other forums and sound dampner websites (Dynamat Fatman) that the roofing stuff can emit a foul odor, but I have never smelled anything odd. If this stuff smelled my wife would have pitched a fit, she never said a word.
