Subject: Quad Cab Vents IP: Logged
Message: I just purchased a 2004 Quad Cab and was happy to see this forum! I plan on installing a sub box and amp behind the rear seats and would like to know the consequenses of removing the cab vents from the rear wall and sealing the holes. It would provide an extra 1" of space and you quad cab owners know how hard that is to come by! Does the cab vent anywhere besides those? I'll work around them if needed but I'd sure like to remove them. I would appreciate any feedback you'd care to offer. Thanks!

Message: Well, i installed an 8" Kicker S8L7 back behind the rear seat on the driver's side about a year ago. It was a pain in the butt, but it's a nice little set up. If you dont want a headache, or to tear your car to peices, dont go much bigger (OR ANY BIGGER) than an 8". I got the Kicker L7 cuz it is defintely the best little sub for the price. If you close up those vents (i thought about closing one) youre going to make the pressure build up in the cab, and when you try to shut the door it wont be as easy. I reccomend not doing it. My setup isnt a ghettomobile boomin down the street, but when i turn the bass up to a good volume, i dont want it any louder. If you want to shake the streets or something, then dont put the speakers behind the seat. Just my opinion.....Hope everything goes well. If you have any questions just ask.

Message: Thanks for your reply, Alec! I figured it probably wouldn't be a good idea to cover them. I am going with an 8" sub (Image Dynamics) and am contemplating using the area behind the rear passenger seat, due to more room between the seat brackets. That way I can go a little wider with the box and get the 45 sq. ft. I really want. If I can relocate the jack I'll be all set!
Another advantage of that will be to use the area behind the rear driver's seat for my amp, which would provide a straight shot for the power wire from the battery. We'll see what happens. Have a great Christmas!

Message: the cab vents through the door handels. turn your heater/fan up all
the way, close the doors and windows and you will feel the air
coming out the door handels. not shure it this is engineered, or a
flaw, but there is a lot of air loss through the handels. or, put your
hand under the back door handel, then close the front door, and
you'll feel the air come out under the rear handel.

Message: I removed mine when I built my sub enclosure for my two Solo Baric eights. I capped them off with two teflon plates that I cut to fit and applied caulking to them and pulled them in from the outside and set them with rivots. I have pics of my install if your interested. It's a 2001 QC. let me know and I can email them to you.

Message: That would be awesome, gr00vie! Please send them to britown53@hotmail.com. Does the air pressure vent somewhere else, as Alan mentioned? Any adverse effects of doing that? Thanks!
