Subject: subwoofer air space?? IP: Logged
Message: well i have 2 rockford 8" stage 1 subs. im looking to buy a sealed box for them. the recommended sealed box dimensions are .35 cu. ft. according to car domain. the box i am looking at says it has 1.2 sq. ft. total.
what effect does having more airspace have on the sound quality or loudness? or should i not be worried about the box being a little too big?

The sub will probably flutter, and even make POPPING noises from over extending when it's too unloaded like that. Probably similar to just running the sub out of a box with it that grossly oversized. And it will have very little volume compared to the right box.
Either cut the box down to the .35 CuFt or insert a sealed section inside it to block off enough of the box to make it near .35 CuFt.
I'd just cut the box down or get a new one, just for saving the weight and size.
