Subject: subwoofer air space??

Message:
well i have 2 rockford 8" stage 1 subs. im looking to buy a sealed box for them. the recommended sealed box dimensions are .35 cu. ft. according to car domain. the box i am looking at says it has 1.2 sq. ft. total.

what effect does having more airspace have on the sound quality or loudness? or should i not be worried about the box being a little too big?

You will have no BOOM in your BOOM BOX :P

The sub will probably flutter, and even make POPPING noises from over extending when it's too unloaded like that. Probably similar to just running the sub out of a box with it that grossly oversized. And it will have very little volume compared to the right box.

Either cut the box down to the .35 CuFt or insert a sealed section inside it to block off enough of the box to make it near .35 CuFt.

I'd just cut the box down or get a new one, just for saving the weight and size.
