I'm own a 2001 qc which I'm currently playing with to try and put a system in it. I only have an amp/capacitor/sub right now on the stock infinity sound system but that'll soon change. My questions are does a sealed box need to be COMPLETLY air tight? I can press down on the subwoofer gently and hear a spot where air is flowing out of the box area, should I patch this up, and what would I do it with? Then also does amplifiers make noise themselves? since when I turn on my car I can hear like a hissing noise coming from either the amp or capacitor. Could the ground be the problem?
Thanks in advance, once I get it like I like it I'll try and post some more about it.

Yes sealed boxes need to be more then airtight, they need to be able to contain an extreme amount of pressure so your subs can do there job. A little air leak will sound like a big air leak later on. It is best to seal the box from the inside, so remove a sub and caulk everything up and let it dry for a couple of days. Use a high quality, flexible, non shrinking caulk.
Amps and capacitors don't make noises, unless they have a built in fan. You may be hearing a speaker hissing from improper gain setting. Ground wires should be as thick as your power wire, short, and have a secure connection to bare metal (no painted surfaces).

Thanks for you help. I'm working on the air leak which is around the sub and is kinda a pain to seal up, I'm using some foam tape for it. As for the Amp it's a bd500 rockfordfosgate and unfortunatly it is making the noise :( I can unplug the sub and turn off the radio and still hear it. I noticed if I apply sideways pressure on a wire or tug on a wire in any way the noise changes.

That's weird! An amp that huuuummmmsssss.
Try this to seal your subs, hardware stores have a workable putty that comes in the form of a thick string. It is used on windows but works great on sealing up subs.

| What am I looking for in a capacitor?

Hi everybody. I am new to this forum, and have a few questions you guys might be able to help me with. I have just recently purchased a new car and don't want to put my system back in until I get a capacitor. My last car had the problem of dimming lights and such.
I guess my question is that I don't know what I am looking for in a good capacitor. I read online for them and have no idea what the "operating temperature" and the other technical terms mean.
I have a 560W amp pushing 2 12" Alpine Type E subs, with an Alpine head unit.
