Subject: Amp for my system? IP: Logged
Message: Hi all-
I am about to purchase some stereo equipment for my 1997 Dodge Dakota Truck and need some info before I go further.
I am putting Eclipse 8062 = 6" component set in the front doors and coaxial in the rear. Also a subwoofer setup, probably a pair of JL Wedge Truck boxes with either two 8" subs or two 10" subs.
But my question is this. What should I use for an amp to power the front component set and the subwoofers (the coaxials will just be powered by the Head Unit)? Can I get away with just one amp?
My local shop suggested the Clarion APX401.4 (4 channel amp); will this power the components and the subs or will I need a seperate amp for each one?
Also what size amp should I use, is the 400W one good for my application? And is 4 channels enought to go to my Eclipse component set (6" speaker with 3/4" tweeter) and the sub(s)?
I'm not looking for competition, but good SQ.

Message: 3,4 or 5 channel amp will work great. The front speakers need at least 35-50 watts, and the subs need at least 200 watts. Kenwood, Sony and MTX make 5 channel amps that are priced pretty low. That way you could power all your speakers with 1 amp. And just about everyone makes a 4 channel amp that will work as well. 400 watts will work great, and later on you could always add another mono amp for the subs if you need more power.
