Subject: Head Unit Wiring IP: Logged
Message: Okay....so my friend has a Cadillac Catera, but that doesnt matter. The point is that each Catera has a Bose system with external amps. The stock head unit in the car puts out a low level signal to the external amps, im pretty sure. So, the question is, can you hook up a new aftermarket head unit with high level speaker outputs to the existing wires which lead to the external amp? I think there will be a lot of fuzz or no sound at all.
Thanks guys (and girls)

Message: Chances are you'd overload (clip) the amp inputs. I seem to recall
that there are companies which offer "integration adapters" for
hooking aftermarket head units to OEM systems (Bose included.)
You could check into that, or just bypass the Bose amplifier and run
head unit power to the speakers.

Message: Its my friends car, and i dotn want to rewire all his car cuz that takes forever. I just didnt know if a high level wire could connect with a low level wire running to the factory amp. I need it to be an easy installation like that or it's just not worth it.
thanks JimZ
