An amp or a headunit? headunits shouldnt be any problem. JUST DONT TURN IT UP!!! lol

No really you should distribute your own fuses for your own equipment...

A headunit can drag anywhere from 10 to 30 amps, some can do more...

An amplifier can drag anywhere from 15 to 150 amps.

You wouldnt want to wire a 1500watt "80amp" amp on a 20 amp rated fuse holder would you? wouldnt you think that would surge your factory electric distrobution?

Well , running straight from the battery wont hurt your dak... Might hurt your equipment if you dont have any inline fuses ran...

I have a 120amp alternator ran to a deep cycle battery. From the battery I ran 2 40amp inline atc fuses, from there I have a 10gauge wire that runs to my capacitor. positives from the capacitor goto the 2 amplifier's. Grounds bolt straight to the seat ground. After my amps to watt conversion, 4 wires goto 3 aw12151t's, wired in p/p. My neck collapses frequently :P

amps: 1500w class d hifonics @ 1.67 ohm each
subs: 800wM a peice, planning on adding 3 more
...mp3 player... hehe

Can you smell my coils burning!!!??? :D

Yup, that's what I did, ran the amp's 4ga wire off the stock fuse box + battery connection and fused the 4 ga wire 1 foot from the fuse box with a 100 amp fuse. The 4 ga wire runs to a fused distribution block on the back wall of my QC close to the amps, each amp is run off a 30 amp fused 8 ga wire from the dist block.

I also replaced the stock + wire from the fuse box to battery and battery to alternator Both of these wires on my 03 were fairly small,,, something close to 8 ga wire.

Also, chase down your battery grounds and make sure they have good connections. On my 03 the batttery was grounded to 2 places, the engine block and front fender. I grounded my amps and deck to the frame (common practice) and had a serious ground loop problem because there was no stock frame ground. Running a 4 ga wire from the battery - terminal to the frame solved the buzzing noise caused by the ground loop.

This is what I did too. The system will never know it's not connected directly to the battery. There's no fuse between that line and the battery to blow.

You'll never need any more current than that positive power source in the fusebox will provide you with. You may wish to use a lightning cap to help reduce drops in electronic network baseline voltage (not good for ECU) when the music gets loud.

Also, use cheap 80 cent house-wiring copper ground (screw set type) strap to secure your power to the power 'bolt'. Also works great for ground.

I laugh at people who spend big bux on gold plated power contacts, and actually believe they're getting 'cleaner' or 'MORE' power. Just make sure the connection is clean and tight, you'll be fine.
