Message: the previous thread brought this to mind. I have a new HU which supposedly puts out 50x4, but i still run it through the stock infinity amp and power polk db6500s in the doors. I have had no problems with distortion or anything even at higher volumes. I know i should get a new amp, but im out of places to mount it (besides the roof). Anyway is this because a new HU really only would put out the same amount of wattage as the stock amp?
Second question. I have 2 250 watt subs powered by a 500x1 mono amp. At low volumes the sound from the subs is about equal (slightly louder) than my speakers. At about a little under half volume they are equal, but when i want to blast my system, my speaker completly drown out my subs. Why is this. The sensitivity, bass, and crossovers are all set to the max, and the low end cut of is all the way down (so i get the biggest range). I do not really want to boost my subs anymore anyway because they would drown out the speakers at low volume. Is this normal?

Message: I'm a little novice at this, as you can tell. If my HU is putting out lets say 25 watt RMS and the stock infinity amp is putting out 30 watt RMS, do you add this to get the total, or does the HU wattage not matter, and only the 30 watts goes to the speakers.

Message: you do not add the wattages cannot work like that, if you are still using the factory amp then you probably have a low level signal going to it, so your speakers are basically getting the same wattage as stock HU, but may be clearer due to higher quality, they are getting what the amp puts out.

Then you're only getting the power that the Infinity amp is capable
of. As dak2000 says, power does not "add."

Message: I heard the amp puts out b/w 20 and 35 RMS which would probably be higher than my HU, so should i leave as is or bypass?
