Subject: Stereo Power Issue IP: Logged
Message: In my 93 Dakota lately my CD Deck has started to act up. It doesnt turn on when i start my truck, but it will randomly light up when hit a bump, and then turn right back off when i hit another bump or make a turn or something. Usually stays on for like 2 seconds. If im lucky enough i will have a smooth ride and it might even get as far as being on for long enough for it to load up and start playing some music, usually gets cut short after playing music for like 3 seconds and then just goes black again.
I am experience with car stereos, so i looked into it. I took it out and examined the wires and redid all the connections for the wiring harness. Still no luck there. so i tried just hooking up the stock radio/tape player. I put that in, so there are no wiring harnesses or anything, just straight stock connector-connector. Well, this produced the exact same results as my CD Player.
So this makes me wonder if it is a loose wire somewhere deeper in the system that i dont have access too or something. I doubt its a fuse considering it does power on sometimes and it goes out when the cars moving.
Anyone have any ideas???

Message: Could be a bad wire somewhere????? I would put a multi meter on the circuit to see if you have 12 volts at the unit when it cuts off during play...
More then likely you got a bad wire (ground) though
