graphitedak. I have read that you have a computer and touchscreen installed in your dakota. My pioneer HU sucks and I have been dying to get a computer and touch screen in there so I can put all of my music collection on. Do you have any pics posted of your screen and where you mounted the computer? And also how did you power the computer? with a DC-DC power supply? Thanks for all your help I hope I can get one of these as soon as possible.

Sorry I am retarded, I just found your site and went through all your pics. A couple of questions though. Is that your computer mounted under the rear right seat? And how are you powering your computer? Did you get that 12v DC supply? And last one, how are you getting sound from your pc to your car? through one of your amps?

It's behind the left rear seat. My sub us behind the right rear seat.

I have my eyes on a SMALLER montherboard at Fry's Electronics for $169.00. It is only like 8 inches square and made by VIA. No CPU fan needed. Has built in CPU with heat sink running at 1Ghz. Plenty for mp3's, DVD's and GPS. It also has built in sound, video, all that stuff.
I plan on either moving it up front under the dash in a hinged down case, or installing under the rear seats (in between the two amps).

I am running a small inverter for now to power my small ATX board with an AMD XP2200+. It works fine. Just have to switch the inverter off manually after I turn off the PC. The computer turns on and off via the power button I mounted up front. Same thing as the power button on the front of your PC's case.

12VDC ATX power supplies are EXPENSIVE if you get enough power to run a AMD like I am.

I'm working on my own power supply right now. It's in the works and am waiting for some more parts to arrive from DigiKey electronics to continue the switching power supply that will run right from 12VDC.

It's not that expensive to get something up and running. Mine's been working as is for months now and the GPS came in handy yesterday to find my way around down in Tuscon and Tombstone in Southern AZ.

One works.

But I have a DEEP CYCLE in the truck box (in the bed) as well.
The second battery helps prevent the battery from discharging. An isolater would help. But don't have one yet.
Also, without the second battery and if I ran the stereo a while without the truck running the system would interupt when I started the truck.
The second battery helps there too.
