Sure...
Either on the headboard or put it in the back seat.. They also have those new suction cup mounts for the back window. the old type that just wedge in don't work because of the design of the new back windows.

Personally I'd say lay them in the back seat.. Otherwise get the suction cup mounts.

Actually I live in-between Dallas & Ft. Worth

it must be essential to have a CB and a gun rack to survive the rugged and untamed suburbs of dallas. i can only imagine. us city boys like keeping glocks in our glove compartments or under our seats (given you dont have power seats). no modifications necessary.

I have a manual transmission in my extended cab Dak. I'd like an install atleast as clean as my stereo, so I am thinking about removing the cup holder I have under the center section of my center seat (I have GenIII split bench seats in my 93 Dak), removing the ashtray (but then where will change go?) or an overhead shelf or something.

The unit itself is too big to mount with suction cups to the windshield, besides I don't want it blocking my view.

And, yes, I am serious about wanting a CB in my truck. There's no monthly fee, I can listen to other peoples conversation, get hold of emergency personel, and use it to communicate with my Boy Scouts with their handhelds, or with my family members and we caravan places. Just because technology is old doesnt mean it is obsolete.

Thanks for the help everyone. I appreciate it.

Ok this post has brought out the redneck in me! George! How do you expect us to holler at eachother about where the dogs are at if we don't have a cb? Me personally, I like the idea of putting it in my center console. I have the quad with bucket seats and it has the power outlet and all. As for your glock, well that's like bringin a knife to a gunfight for us country boys. I'm like the phone company, I like to reach out and touch someone! I don't know if you have seen them or not Knobby but they make some strap like deals with velcro that hold 3 guns in place on the rear seat. Alot of people like to make fun of us "rednecks", one day they just might wish they were a bit more like us!

i mounted mine right in the dash where my cupholders were in my 1996 gen II dak. took a little work with the dremel to get the opening just right but when i finished it looked almost factory installed and i get lots of compliments. For this setup though it's best to use a radio with the microphone jack on the face of the radio. i also have an external speaker hooked up on the floor hump between the stick shift and the heat vents since the one in the radio cant be heard anymore inside the dash.

I mounted a Cb in my old truck on the roof where the overhead console would have been. I used the factory mounting bracket that came with my Cobra 25 LTD. It looked real nice. The only problem was when I jumped the local railroad tracks the Mic would fall and snap the cable so I would have to take it down to jump stuff. Maybe I should have mounted it under the dash like Bo and Luke Duke.

Yea I've seen them but I don't know how secure it holds the guns. I'm going to end up putting my CB right infront of the middle seat facing up so I have access to all the buttons. I think it will fit I haven't bought the CB yet so I'm not sure. MUAHAH AHA HAH the rednecks ran the city boys off. ;-)

Do you have any pictures of your installation? I like the idea of being able to see what channel I'm on and my passenger being able to easily use the cb.

Thanks, Mike

no problem , like i said i'll get the pics this weekend. you might want to do what i did before i started i went to the junkyard and got a spare moulding with the cupholder to work with just in case i messed it up, and that way i still have the original to put back in the truck if i ever get rid of it. best part is the dashboards are all the same from 87 to 96 so it shouldnt be too hard to find one. the only thing is finding one that matches the one you already have. i actually had a harder time finding a dakota in a few junkyards than i did finding the cupholder and moulding that matched. just something to think about if you decide to go wild with the dremel.

That is a nice install. Clean and simple, and functional and ergonomic. Very nice (I wish more people would install their stereos that neatly ;)

I'm going to take measurements and try to put my CB in over Easter weekend. My unit is a little longer I think, so I have to make sure that it will fit depth-wise. I'm thinking I'll find an old 4" car speaker or something and mount it in that grill thing under the ashtray as an external cb speaker.

Hopefully I can get pics for everyone, but whatever teh case, I'll let everyone know how it goes.

By the way, do any of you GenIII guys think this would work in your trucks? I know some folks on the DML who are wondering...

Thanks
Mike Styer

Glad you liked it and i hope some of the comments will help you out. It actually took me around a year to come up with that idea having such little room in the cab with the stick shift and transfer case shifter on the floor . I also like having a nice clean looking install so when i did it i tried to make it look like it came from the factory and it fit really good especially with the amount of space availabe inside the dash once the cupholders are removed.
Just take your time cuz the plastic gets a little flimsy and awkward to hold when your cutting. Let us know how it goes and i hope it works out well for you.

Well,

I got home for the weekend and measured my CB and compared it to the dash. My unit is about 2 inches narrower than the cup holder, and after taking the trim off the dash, I wasnt going to cut out the dash support to put my CB there...sooo...

I have Gen III split bench seats in my 93 Dak, so I removed the cup holder from the center section and mounted my CB there. Stealthy, neat, but I can't see the face. BUT, the dials and everything are at my fingertips.
