Subject: installing a newer factory stereo IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1993 Dakota, and one of my friends gave me the factory CD player out of his 2005 Durango. I am having trouble finding the correct wiring harnessto hook it up. i have the scosche adapter kit, but it does not have the harness that plugs into the new factory CD player. If anyone has any tips or advice, i would be grateful

Message: Hey jpod-
Quick question for you. I'm trying to do the same thing you are, put a 2005 dakota/durango cd player into my 1998 dakota. Did the new radio fit well into your 93? The responses I'm gettin so far are that it will probably "fit" but the trim won't match up. What do you think?

Message: For anyone interested, the radio from a 2005 Durango will not
work in a Dakota older than 2005 model year. Starting with MY
2004, the Durango uses the new CAN-Bus network, instead of
the older J1850 and CCD bus. CAN radios will not even power
up in a non-CAN vehicle. Pre-CAN (pre-2004) radios power on
when you turn the ignition on, from the ACC feed which goes to
+12v. CAN-Bus radios power on via a command from the
vehicle's body controller. For reference, the current CAN-Bus
vehicles sold by Chrysler are:
- 2004+ Durango
- 300, Magnum, Charger
- 2005+ Grand Cherokee
- 2006+ Ram
