Subject: Amplifier hook-ups IP: Logged
Message: Can I run a short power chord from the positive terminal of one amp to another positive terminal of an amp? Of course, the first amp is connected to the car battery, but instead of running a whole other line through the car, can i get power by connecting it to the current wire?
I know I will be cutting off some of the power flowing to my current amp, but is there anything wrong with this setup? Will it fry the second amp? First? I dunno? Please help....
Im trying to install a small amp and its kinda pointless to run a whole other line through the truck....
thanks

Sure you can do that..IF I were you I would get a Power Distribution block makes for a nice job you can get a fused block but you dont have to as long as the main power feed has a inline fuse..Also you might have to up that fuse to match the input rating on the amps..

Message: First you MUST ensure that the wire that is currently run will handle the power needed for both amps. The amps will draw the power they want/need, if you wire is too little, plan for a smoke show and maybe a fire.

Message: I would go buy a Power Distribution block! You can buy them for like $5-10 and would be a lot more safe. Would you be able to squeeze both of those power wires into the one amp, if I am following you correctly?
I say go with a power distribution block. Wal-mart has them or any other place that sells car stereo equipment.
