Subject: Amp install IP: Logged
Message: I am installing my amp myself. I have everything hooked up except the speakers. I don't want to have to tear my door panels apart to run wire from speaker to amp. So, I called Circuit City and they want $100 just to hook up the speakers!!! WOW!! And Best Buy says all they do is run a bunch of wire from the back of the deck to the amp. I was to understand that you had to run wire from the amp, directly to the speaker. Not the deck to the amp. If anyone has a more detailed way of installing an amp, let me know! I have a 97 dak reg cab. Alpine 6.5 comp. up front and 5.25's in the back. And also I have the rca cables! Please help me!

Message: It is easy brotha, just run the wires from the amp to a "Metra" harness that you can buy from Circuit City for about $20 spice into the harness matching channels from the amp to the proper speaker wires on the harness. The harness plugs into the factory harness so you don't mangle your stock wiring.
Buy the "reverse radio" harness from Curcuit City or Best Buy and hook up all the wires BUT THE SPEAKER WIRES, cut tape those off so they don't touch anything. Plug this harness to your factory radio.
Tape up everything like a factory harness once your sure your wiring is done correctly and plug and play.
These harness's are all color coded so you should have no problems... green to green etc.

Message: Don't forget the Blue remote turn on from your amp to the new harness, or your amp ain't turning on... There is a color code on the packaging of the Metra harness.
Any try not to run the wires the same way you ran power and ground for the amp. Take another route to avoid the possiblilty of interferance
Forgot to mention that

Message: Just re-read your post... are you using the factory Head Unit, if so and your amp doesn't have "Speaker level Inputs" and all you have is "RCA" inputs then you have to get a "Line Converter" for the input to the amp.
I got one from Circuit City for about $25. just splce the speaker outputs from the "reverse radio" harness into the Converter DON'T TAPE THEM OFF LIKE I SAID EARLIER if you need them for input into the amp.
Think of this whole install like a big loop from the HU to the AMP, then back to the harness.
Take your time and you'll fine.
