Subject: Capacitor IP: Logged
Message: Hello
I have a question...I just purchased a new amp for my mtx thunderform. It is a audiobahn ae2800 or something like that. anyway it is about 500 rms bridged into the 4 ohm load. i have a one farad cap. anyway when the bass hits my lights don't dim anymore but the lights that are in the amp dims and the fan that is in the amp slows down a little bit. my question is how can i fix this. do i need a new battery or should i just upgrade the alternater to battery wire or something. Oh yah i have 4 gauge wire running the amp.
Thanks in advance

Message: No you don't need to upgrade your electrical system unless you just want to spend a few hundred dollars. Count the fuse ratings on your amp, it should be around 60amps or less. Your amp will never use more then that, and even if it came close it would be a very short peak. Your alternator is putting out almost twice that at a constant rate. See my point?? The battery and capacitor make up for that short burst by for a split second getting drained and then charging right back up. That is why you see things dim or slow down for a split second. Try another 1 Farad capacitor if first, it should make up for those big bass notes.
Unless you are running 120+ amps (1200 true watts RMS all the time) of power, you have nothing to fear.
