Ok all you experts, I got a few questions for you or atleast some stuff to allow some oppinions. I am revamping the sub layout in my 94' CC and i'm trying to get all my research done first, instead of after i've made a mess. I had it set up with the left side bench removed and a wood cover made for the tool box opening with holes for a pair of 8" drivers, motor up. This turned out to be a little bit to much volume for the subs at about 1.73 cubic inches. I origanaly planned to build a folded horn enclosure to replace the tool box under the rear seat. If any of you have ever been to a club or a concert you have most likely heard a horn system. I figured this would be a good smooth way to fill out the low end while also having a sealed enclosure to handle tight, deep bass. After some thought and some evenings playing with lumber i'm not sure how well I can make this turn out with the tools I have on hand, so I am looking at other options. I have seen it discussed breafly about mounting subs in the side panels of the cab by cutting a proper sized holein the side pannel and then building a fiberglass enclosure. I don't see this as a terible idea as of yet since I would then have use of the entire bench, it's just the cutting into the pannel that has be a bit nervous. Does anyone know what is behind the plastic pannel, what does the metal look like? Is it somewhat flat? My other big question is sound cancelation. since I have a pair of subs they would most definatly get mounted across from each other. What kind of cancelation effects should I expect and can these be correted by changing the polarity of one? I am not trying to go for loud. I have always maintained that I am looking for sound quality.

Behind the plastic panel is just thin metal with a large cavity, then the metal for the outside of the truck. If you have the propert tools to cut metal cleanly then you really can't screw it up to much. Just be careful not to bumb that outer wall, otherwise you will have dents on the outside of your truck.

Having the subs face each other will not cancell them out, it is actually a method used by SPL contenders to get more bass. Reversing the polarity of a sub will for sure cancell out the bass.

BTW- Just build a normal box, the horn application will not really yield you a better sound with subwoofers. It is used for frequencies above 500hz at high volumes, when referring to horn compression drivers.

Thanks for the info. I just want to make sure I have no dead zones from opposing frequencies. That's how noise cancelation works, mirror image frequencies. Sometimes in PA systems(where i have some experience) you get a dead zone where your sound paths cross. I'll trust you though. As for the horn, this is what i was refering too: http://www-user.uni-bremen.de/~carnivor/horn/hornfolds.html

Or at www.decware.com
I built a W horn about 4 months ago and it is incredibly full so I had planed on duplicating it in my cab.

Well I guess it doesn't hurt to try something different. I did see a similiar setup in a ford truck, the guy had half a dozen cerwin vega strokers (15") wedged into a horn type enclosure. Need I say it hit close to 170 dB. Let us know how it works out.
