Subject: MTX 6000's vs JL 10w3's IP: Logged
Message: I've recently purchased a new thunderform and thanks to the people at MTX my month old JL's won't fit. I did know this when I bought the box. I didn't know when I bought the sub's last month. Anyway, I've never had any sub's other than JL and I'm real fond of their quality. Are these 6000's gonna sound anywhere close to the JL's . I'm pushing them with an older Punch 225.2 amp that when bridged puts out around 620watts. I'm pretty sure this will be enough. Hey, if any of you have advise of opinions, let me know. As much sh1t as I've read on here it sound like a few of us have some real nice Dak's. Take it easy.

Message: The 6000's will get the job done, but they won't pound like the 10w3's. I think you will be satisfied if not we can send you back to the drawing board.

Message: Well it's been a while now. Actually I went ahead and bought the 6000's about 8 months ago. They worked fine and actually think they sounded better than the 10W3's. Although the 6000's are under the seat and the 10W3's were in a box sitting on the rear seat and therefore I've got more airspace to work with. With the Daks there isn't really that much to begin with, it all helps. ***Important note, if your gonna run a lot more power than these subs recommend, be very careful. My first set of 6000's only lasted about 4 months. Again I've been pushing them with around 650 watts though. Now that I'm on my second set I've tuned it down to around 600ish. Still over the recommended max of 500. I've really fine tuned the settings on my receiver to make this work well. I wouldn't really suggest doing this unless your willing to sacrafice a pair of subs or really know what to listen for when your subs are at their limit. I can still adjust three or four settings on the head unit but it really depends on what song is on and what freq it gives the subs. I can say that with my sh!t turned up, I've been parked over 75ft away
(doors closed, windows 3/4 down) from my local gas station and have watched the sh!t on the walls rattle. Although I dearly loved my 10W3's and will never put down their quality, the 6000's sound pretty damn good. I nor any of my passengers have complained yet. Thanks for the imput from those who helped with opinions. Later all. B

Message: the JL's are WAY overpriced for not being that good. (they arent bad, but at that price they should wake up and cook me breakfast) the 6000's are great in a propper box and with adequate power. i think some people on this forum just saw JL's in a show car and decided based on price that JL was the best (it isnt). hope the 6K's are working out for you. ~R

Message: I have a 1991 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab and have had 10w3s and mtx 6000 10s. The current set up are the 6000s and are being pushed on a directed 1100d amp, all wired up to 2.667 ohms, in a custom slot port box. I have to say I prefer the MTXs to the JLs, mainly due to the cost of the JLs but also due to the fact with the same amp the w3s hit 133.1 db on the guage and the 6000s hit 139.2 db. Dosent sound like it should be right when you compare the cost of the 2, the 3 6000 10s cost 1/2 the price of the 3 w3s.I also must say the 6000s are much less distorted and that both subs had custom slot ported boxes made to specification when measured.
