Subject: QC 12" Sub Enclosure
IP: Logged

Message:
Finally got around to getting some pics of my QC 12" sub enclosure. The enclosure is right at 1 cuft and is constructed of 3/4 MDF, 3/16" fiberglass sides. The sub is countersunk in to the box 3/4" and reliefed off the floor 1".

The box extends up into the console and back underneath the rear seats. When installed in the truck it takes up some back passanger leg room, but it has not been a problem, my 1 year old sits over the box ;-)

Here's a quick shot of the amp setup behind the rear passanger seat. Forgive the cap, it's a salvage item out of an old 1980's mainframe computer. Eh,,, it works!

Thanks for the rear seat flip down mod Graghite!

You know I don't prefer the console method. but that's one clean looking install!

I know you spent some time building that. And I'd consider that pretty stealth as it looks like a console to some extent.

I'm glad you liked the seat mods. What are those black boxes above the amp in the left side of the photo? Are they crossovers? I know most amps have them built in.

The black boxes are crossovers for the rear set of Infinity Reference 605CS components. I mounted the Xovers to the amp board since the tweeters are in the rear pillars and the 6.5" drivers are in the rear doors.

YaYa, I know someone is going to chime in saying "why did you put components in the rear?" If you haven't heard components in the rear you don't know what your missing. Well, at least I like the way they sound compared to coaxes.

Oh, those are PASSIVE crossovers AFTER the amp correct?

Just some fancy equip rather than just some capacitors inline with the tweeters :P

Yeah passive Xovers, 12 or 18db, bunch of caps and coils in the xovers. The Xovers have an additional tweeter output which cuts the tweeters 3db, Infinity tweeters are REALY bright and need toning down.

Toning down the tweeters even further with the EQ sounded bad so I had to put in an additional -2db Lpad to cut the tweeters volume and make them sound right with the mids.
