Subject: Alpine Components IP: Logged
Message: Hi everyone, i just bought Alpine Type S 6.5 inch components for my truck as well as 6.5 coaxials for the rear. I already have a Alpine 9811 headunit and the stock inifinti setup in my 02 cc. My roomate has a fosgate amp (250.2) two channel amp that he is willing to sell me for cheap. My question is it worthwhile to use this amp with my components? Will that help producer better sound/bass? He wants 100 for it, just want to know what thoughts are out there.
thanks

Message: THE ALPINE SPEAKERS ARE VERY GOOD SPEAKER I HAVE THEM IN MY TRUCK. THEY WILL PRODUCE MORE BASS THAN THE STOCK SPEAKERS BUT NOTHING COMPARED TO A COUPLE SUBS. YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO MORE RESEARCH ON THE AMP CUZ THE SPEAKERS ARE ONLY RATED FOR 50 WATTS RMS. I AM GUESSING THE AMP IS 125 WATTS X 2 AND YOU WOULD PROBABLY BE OK USING IT WITH THE ALPINES AS LONG AS YOU DONT CRANK IT TILL IT GETS DISTORTED. PERSONALY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BASS I WOULD GET SOME SUBS AND A 5 CHANNEL AMP TO RUN ALL 4 SPEAKERS AND THE SUBS.

Message: CARL: in the amps manual it says that the rms is 62.5 on both channels driven into a 4 ohm load, and 125 into 2 ohm load. i am not sure what this means. i also heard that i could hook all four speakers up to the 2 channel amp. would this be beneficial?
i think the component rms=50 and the rear=40
thanks for the help

Message: Hey Gang,
It is okay to use an amp with more juice than the RMS of your speaker. In fact, it is the preferred way to do it. Pro sound systems in concert halls usually have a 4:1 ratio for their power amps to RMS of the loudspeaker. This prevents distortion and square waves from getting to the speaker. Most people don't follow this rule of thumb, because it is expensive to have a 200W amp for a 50 RMS speaker.
Install with confidence.

Message: hey thanks a lot
i did the install and it sounds great!! i am really impressed with these speakers!
Of course when i installed them i cut ALL the wires going to the door!! me=stupid (at least its not power windows/locks) i thought the four wires were for the stock tweeter and speaker, and they are, but somehow the chime and lights dont come on with the doors anymore. No big deal to connect them again...
but the real problem i have now is that with all this new bass my doors rattle like no other. i want to put dynamat or something in, but i am not sure how or where on the door exactly to run it. any ideas/suggestions appreaciated!
thanks again

Message: HAHA... Too much of a good thing?? Nah!!
Try and track down specific rattles by sitting in the cab with the music playing and reach around touching things. It will probably take forever, but it is worth it in the long run. The difference between a rookie system and a good one is the rattles. Don't forget things like the Licence Plate, the mirrors, and the muffler hangars.
I would dynamat the inside of the doors, and then go crazy-go-nuts with electical tape, silicone, foam rubber, anything you need to wedge between the plastic door panels and the door. Don't forget simple stuff like the jack and spare change in the arm rest!!

Message: Well, it's really up to you. If you listen to music at low-comfortable levels, more dynamat will isolate the cab and make the system more efficient. Every time you lower the ambient noise 3dB, you double the effectiveness of your sound system.
But, if you're ghetto blasting, a little Dynamat won't make much of a difference.
