Alpine F240 Amp
What kind of wiring kits do you suggest, in terms of brand and that stuff, also what about speaker wire? the factory stuff is junk. how about amp placement, i am thinking under the seats right now. i have a custom box similar to the design of anthony's if anyone has seen that. i think thats it, hopefully some people have some suggestions. thanks

Message: i would use 4 gauge from the battery to the rear of your truck and then use a distro block with 8 gauge to the amps. put a fusable link about 6-8 inches from the battery ine the 4 gauge

Message: I would just find some name brand wiring. I've heard several people who just used the Wally-world stuff and were happy.
Crutchfield has an amp wiring guage/length chart that you can use as a starting point. The wire guage is totally dependant on the ampheres required for the amps, and the length of the run.
I would also suggest fusing both the feed line from the battery (close to the battery as suggested), and the links from the components to the distribution block. You want a fused link for each device just in case one of them starts acting up.

Message: On my 00 CC I used 2 - 8ga wiring kits from Wally World. The run going to my RF301S fried the cheap fuse holder, the thing was totally melted because it couldn't carry enough current without getting hot. Had to cut the fuse holder out and replace it with an AGU fuse holder.
On my 03 QC I used a 4ga wire with a 100 amp fuse 12" from the battery, a distribution block/fuse holder with 30 amp fuses on the back wall of the truck and 8 ga wires to the amps.
I picked up the 4 ga kit from Wally World and the fuse holder and distribution block of Ebay. I didn't like fuse holder from the Wally World kit, but for $20 the kit's a bargain.

Message: Okay does it really matter if the one says I need say 8Ga and the other says I need 10GA running to it? I've seen a few distribution blocks that have 4Ga running from the battery to the block then 8GA running from the block to the amp. Can I use 8GA on both amps even though it might suggest otherwise in the amp manuals? This one company on ebay called HiFi Sound Connection Car Audio is where I am looking, they have everything. I just don't want to encounter any problems. Thanks

Message: Your best bet would be to go to a car stereo shop and tell them what you have. They will tell you what you need to run. They might even have a install kit for you that will include everything you need. They should have no problem telling you how to set it up, but of course if you do not plan to buy there do not tell them that at first. They are the people who put them in all the time. You can also look at the instructions for the amp, and DO NOT go any smaller than what is recommended. If you decide to run 1 wire and slit them near the amps, you will need a wire that will accomodate the Amperage of both amp together. If you go this route you should be fine. Of course, the smaller the gauge of the wire the bigger it is...

Message: Curtis, going with larger guage wiring (lower number) is not a problem. Going with smaller guage wiring could cause a problem if your pushing enough ampheres to fry the wires.

Message: Here's an amp kit for the two amps I want to hook up, do you think it will do the job. It looks to me like I just need some speaker wire. Thanks

Message: Curtis, the kit looks good with all you need to hook up the amps, except for speaker wire of course. I do not know how this compares against a kit you can buy in a stereo store, but if it is cheaper then you should have a winner. Read the direction for each amp and make sure each on will work with an 8 gauge power wire, if either one calls for more then the kit is no good for you.
