Subject: Updated pix of Quad Cab sub IP: Logged
Message: Today I had to replace my Rockford Fosgate 10" P2 sub for the 5th or so time (under 4 yr warranty).
I think I'm in order to try and sqeeze a second 10" sub behind my rear seats sometime this summer.
Today I took some new pix of my system and the mods I've done to fit the equipment.
This may help some others who are looking to install subs and amps in a Quad Cab Dak.
I originally just had my right rear seat moved forward 1.5 inches but last week I moved the left rear seat forward to match.
This is done by removing the seats and drilling new holes in the bottom mounts. The rear mounts have to be shimmed up slightly with large washers to keep it level but as you can see there is still plenty of room for my two kids to sit and I even have adults in here as well INCLUDING this next weekend when I drive 4 of us to the Dunes near Yuma. I'll try to remember to take some pics of everyone in the truck.
Shoved behind this seat is a 10" RF P2 Sub in a 1 cu ft box. The Box was built for my old HE sub. The P2 only calls for .75 cu ft sealed so i have a few 2x4 studs screwed to one side to reduce the actual box size. So you could effectively have a few inches shaved off on this box and it would be ok for this sub.
A closer look.
Under the right rear seat is this cheap amp I bought to run my door speakers and tweeters. It's plenty of power but wish I had bought the 4 channel amp instead of the 2 channel so I could have had surround decoded straight from my computer based media system.
Oh, and the red thing is an inverter. I use it to power small things like battery chargers when on trips.
Under the left rear seat is the amp for the sub.
I should be able to power two subs with this amp.
It keeps murdering the single sub I have now.
behind the right rear seat is my work in progress.
That's a 2 Ghz PC based media center. I'm using a 120Gig hard Drive to hold my several thousand mp3's and DVD movies plus the other programs including the navigation and WiFi internet to get files from my home PC's or for when I need to leach off of someone else's internet when I'm away from home to look up something.
I will need to find another location for the computer if I am to install a second 10" Sub here.
Anyway. I see people weekly ask about space for subs in a QC and I reply when I can. Thought I could post some updated pix.

Message: Most of the pictures as I have been working on it are on my web site which you can go to by clicking the banner below.
There's when I first installed it.
I filled the gaps on the sides with my old plastic adapter from my head unit I pulled out.
I still need to make a bezel of some sort to make it look perfect but it doesn't look to bad as it is now.
I've made changes to it little by little.
Right now I use WinAmp instead of WMP because it works better and remembers where I left of in my playlist the next time I open that program.
I'm working on putting some contol buttons in my middle console that i will make from the controller from an extra keyboard. It will have the MEDIA key functions you find on most computer keyboards where you have volume up/down, Mute, Play, Pause, pervious track/next track, etc...
The computer has yet to overheat and I just used it for a long drive from the dunes and back this weekend and it's already in the 90's outside.
It played fine all the way there and back.
Playing mp3's doesn't work the processor much at all. But I've had the system rip and burn a DVD movie while listening to mp3's before and had no problem.

Message: They are I think what you call stage 2.
they are called P2's anyway.
The stage 1's have the standard 1" excursion (where the movement is limited to 1" total in and out), where the P2's have a 2" excursion.
Go with the P2's. It's ALMOST like having one sub do what two P1's would do!
Two P2's should be pretty damn loud. I will find out this summer I hope after I pay other bills first.
My single sub is tuned in a sealed box to .75 cu ft I believe which is what the specs said. It's got a pretty flat response and with my EQ in my computer's sound card driver set to boost the 30HZ range by about 10dB it's pretty responsive!
