I just installed Polk comp db6500 in my doors Im running them via a stock HU through an Alpine MRP240 amp 40x4..they sound ok I guess not lovin them tho.. I am wondering if I am not hitting them with enough rms they are rated for 100 watt rms Continuous,,, 300 watt rms peak so since im sending only 40watts rms to them is that a reason for poor sound?

ok, a few problems with your post-
#1 i have those speakers and they are pretty sweet, good choice.
#2 they run 300w peak 100wRMS
your head puts out 40w peak, probably 17wRMS and that is VERY underpowered for components. any time you run comps you need an external amplifier.
now a quick lesson for you to help you better understand whats going on.
Peak power is what a lot of lower end speaker/amplifier companies use to confuse newbies and try to make their products look better. RMS power is the # that matters.
RMS is (basically) the ammount of power accually being used on a regular basis by the speaker, peak power is what would happen if the amp was hit by lightening. your head unit runs 40w PEAK power but less than half that in RMS power and components are very power hungry. you really need to give them about 60 or more watts RMS if you want them to sound good. MTX makes some amazingly good amplifiers that are reasonably priced. good luck. ~R

I think he's running them through an amp that's putting out 40w RMS...re-read the post...
I think u need a bigger amp to get cleaner sound out of those speakers...Your amp is a little underpowered although its a good amp. That amp works great with infinity reference series speakers...

I have the same amp, and I bridged the output for the front speakers. This makes the amp produce 100 watts rms per channel instead of the 40w. I then ran my rear speakers off the deck power because I only use them for rear fill and this works perfect. That amp is can produce some load clean power in the bridged mode.

I tried bridging my amp for my front speakers before too, but you lose any stereo and any song with a difference between left and right sounds terrible (that's a lot more songs than I thought).
Wasn't worth it to me, plus most bridgable amps can only be bridged with 4ohms or more of net resistance, so with 2 4ohm speakers, I had to wire them in series to get 8 ohms, then the amp was only putting out half of the bridged output.
If I wired them in parallel I would have busted the amp, being bridged with a 2 ohm load.
