Subject: Stock pre-amp wiring Q
IP: Logged

Message:
I've replaced my factory infinity components with CDTs, but I've decided I need an amp to push them properly. I want to keep the stock head unit for now, so I'm wondering if anybody knows what the voltage is on the stock pre-amp wiring. Do I need a hi/lo converter, or are they compatible with an aftermarket amp if I tap the pre-amp wires as is?

I just replaced my factory amp in my 2002 CC as well. The input from the stock head unit to the stock amp are speaker level inputs.. I chose an amp that had both pre amp inputs and speaker level inputs. I extended the factory wiring to the new amp and all worked well using the speaker level inputs on the new amp..

OK, thanks. My wires are in place, I'm just waiting on delivery of my amp. I decided to go with a speaker->pre-amp converter from circuit city. Hope it works ok.

I wrote about a wiring harness "adapter" that plugs in between stock harness and back of factory radio, it gives you (2) pair of pre-amp rca outputs. I think the name had something to do with "Chrysler OEM", but I am not sure. Do some searches under the audio section, you might find it. It works great
