Subject: REPLACE AMP ? IP: Logged
Message: Hi
two Questions:
1. Im thinking of replaceing my stock amp with a Alpine MRP-F240 40W x 4 Car Amplifier or
Profile AP1040 80W x 4 car amplifier,
is 40x4 enough power for my new speakers 60watt rms 100watt peak or do i go with 80x4..
2. Also I want to get a new head unit and it says it has a 18w x 4 50watt peak so do I need to amp it up?
Any help would be great thanks!!

Message: I am running a 65Wx4 Orion amp on my 90W Infinity components and they don't distort. I need the amp on the components to keep up with the 300W going to to an Infinity Perfect 12 sub though.
The only way to get the maximum potential out of your speakers is to run a seperate amp, the head unit won't do the trick. My last car had an old school 30Wx4 Soundstream amp and it rocked, plenty of power to keep up with the sub. Instead of looking for a bigger mid/tweet amp think about adding a sub and sub amp to add some low end to the system.
40x4 isn't going to get you heard 2 blocks away but it will sound nice in the truck and drown out the road noise.
