Not up on stereo's so don't pick on me. I want to get a couple speaker boxes that hold 8's or 10's and will fit behind the seat of my 2000 RC with the seat all the way back. Is there one? I already installed a Pioneer CD player and am going to swap out the factory speakers for new Pioneers and a set of tweets. Subs will be further in the future. Like to plan ahead though.

you can fit 12" subs in the back but ..... They got t obe a really shallow mounting depth and req like less than 1.5 cubic feet to work with
.....the only place I can think of geting a box is have one made at your local sterio shop. Or find a buddie thats a desent carpentor that will work for beer!

Just measure the room behind the seat and look at the dimensions when you go shopping. I have 6x9's in boxes behind the seat and they just touch the back. I've also seen someone with 10" on a RC dak that fit just fine.

I've had two tens, moved on to two twelves, and am now working on a 12" L7 solobaric square kicker box.
The first set I made so I could put the seat all the way back. Well, when the truck was stolen, they took the 10" subs and custom boxes. With my insurance i made the move to 600watt kenwood twelves, in prefabed enclosures made for 10"'s and opened the holes to allow the 12"'s to fit.
For sub's in the RC, I'd recomend the kenwood tornadoes 10" or 12" and prefab boxes. There are also some phenix gold subs that are shallow and will fit nicely. Using the prefab truck boxes, i only had to move the seat up about an inch. I'm 6'1" tall and it worked fine for me in the drivers seat. Email me and I'll send you the pics if you want.
-If you're going to make you own, be sure to use 3/4 MDF and glue and screw all joints. any leaks, even in ported boxes exfect the sound considerably, so you may want to silicon all of the inside edges as well.any quality speaker/sub you buy will have a range of air space which it has been tested. Basic rule of thum is the larger the enclosure, the deeper the base.

calculations you'll need to know are basic volume equations

rectangle: length x width x height.

cylinder: (3.14 x (radius x radius)) x length.

right angle triagle: (1/2x(base x height))x length.

these calculated numbers will get you the number of cubic inches inside the enclosure, however most manfactures list their air space requirements in cubic feet

so..... 12x12x12 =1728

so once you have calculated the size of your encloser in cubic inches, take that number anf divid it by 1728.

Don't forget to remove the volume that the speaker takes up from the enclosure.

If you can find a set of Orion N/T.... thats a good 12"sub. They are really shallow, 1.5 cf and 600 rms BUT Orion don't make them anymore. Red line is another ...only req 1 cf, dirt a$$ cheap, and amazingly sound pretty desent but I think they are only 300wts rms. DD are great but theyr kindof on the deap side and expensive. The box I built was about 51" long, 10.25" on bttm, 4"top, 16" tall. My calulations say its just under 3cf. By using adams calculation its freakin huge but I suck at shop math. I always use a program to find out cf. Its always closer than my math. Big problem with my box was that the box is snug against the seat! had to mount subs flush = less cf.
If your gonna make a box........ measure, measure, measure, cut, measure.

I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate in my 98' RC. I built the box myself in a saturday. I used 3/4 in. wood, but i could have used 1/2 in. You can fit a 10" with now problem at all, the seat isnt even moved up a notch. The sub sounds great and hits harder than most thanks to Rockford Fosgate :-)) It works I'll have to tell ya that.

pappie,

you probably made a simple, easily madde mistake.
say you a have a rectangular box...
so you use length x width x hieght (in inches) being sure to subtract the thickness of the MDF in the process

so .......
for a 12"x12"x12" box made of 3/4" MDF
means an inner volume of 10.5 x 10.5 x 10.5
=1157.625 cubic inches
to get the cubic feet divide this number by 1728

1157.625/1728=0.67 cu feet

and then you should also remove the volume the speaker takes up in the box (should be supplied with any quality sub.

Hope this helps.

I also have a 2000. I have two 10" MTX in seperate custom truck boxes, and with these both the seats still go just about all the way back, the only problem i ran into was with the tire jack behind the passenger side seat. If u have somewhere else to store the jack then there is plenty of room.

I was wondering if one of the makers of these boxes would be able to give the dimensions of all the parts of their box. Like the bottom board, triangle sides, etc. Any help would be great.. I have the wood purchased i just need something to go off of. I have tried measuring but it helps me none. I am shooting for 10 inch subs.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

do not buy from wyckoff.chrysler.com. They supply the wrong dimensions. They said in the ad that the sub chambers are 0.75 cubic feet and they are really less than 0.5 and the subs sound like crap! They are quality subs too, Polk Audio.

not to hard to get dimensions that will work...

For my extended cab dak i simply grabbed a piece of cardboard and bent it to an accurate angle (i have 4 different angles/steps where i pulled the storage tray out of.) Get those 4 pieces cut to fit. find a decent measurment from front to back (i went with 16", which puts the box about an inch and a half behind flush w/ the face of the seats.) Now figure out the front and back pieces, attach all the pieces you now have together. From there, its just a matter of filling in the gaps w/ mdf, trying to make as few separate pieces as possible. Now you've got a box thats nearly tight to fit, using all the space possible. I'll get pictures up soon ...just waiting on carpet to show up. Also, its gonna be housing 2 (10") 1020W infinity -- they dont require a lotta volume.

Go to supercrewsound.com
I bought some boxes from them to go behind the rear seats in my quad cab. I'm sure they'd fit behind the seats in a RC too. They are basic wedge-shaped boxes. They make very high quality boxes. I calculated the internal volume of the box, excluding the speaker basket, at .533cuft. I have 2 Boston Acoustic G2 10's in sealed enclosures, run off of a Premiere 600x1 RMS Class D amp. They sound so clear and hit so hard; these are the best sounding subs I've ever heard. The dimensions and quality of the enclosure is very important, especially in a ported box. IMO, just as important as the quality of the speaker. Sealed enclosures will give you very tight, clean bass, and they are easier to build, but reqiures more power and produce less SPLs than a ported enclosure. Ported enclosures provide deep, boomy bass. They hit very hard and move a lot of air, however, you will sacrifice some sound quality. Ported enclosures are also harder to build, especially for a first time box builder, because the ports and box dimensions need to tuned to the speaker to provide best results. You can have very high quality subs sound like total crap in a poorly built box. I'm sure you've all witnessed this in other people's stereo systems before. I listen to rock music mostly so I went with a sealed enclosure. If you listen to rap, hip/hop, dance music, etc., you should go with a ported enclosure.

Ya i had the same problem with my RC when i bought it i couldnt move the seat up because its a small enough cab as is. So i made my own box as well out of 3/4 MDF for a Pioneer 10inch . I have a bench seat in mine not the buckets so that made it alittle harder plus with the tools and jack on the passenger side u cant put it there. I had it basicly behind the driver and the sound sucked because when u sit in the seat the back of the seat touchs the sub so it would muffle it out. best is to make it for the middle of the seat just enough room. And as for the amp i mounted mine under the passenger side Works great with all the new speakers blast me out of the truck if i want it too. Bewarned tho shallow subs mostly sound like crap cause they dont have the cone travel u want.
