Subject: thunderform mod's (amp rack) IP: Logged
Message: what up guys, im new to this forum, but i think you guys here know your stuff pretty well and see pretty cool, so im lookin forward to bs'in about our bad ass trucks ;)....lol with that said, im lookin at getting a thunderform for my 99' dak extended cab, and dropping a pair of idq 10's. but the problem is i have an esx amp for my components and the damn this is kidna big so i dont think its gonna fit under the drivers seat (12x9x3) so i guess my question is...1) has anyone managed to fit an amp that big under their seat and 2) if not, would it be possible for someone who already has a thunderform to make a quick measurement for me to see if maybe a lil fiberglass work will let me make a lil amp rack out of the jack area of the thunderform... it would suck to buy it thing and then have it not work out.....thanks a lot for any help...i appreciate it

Message: You might want to try it anyways...you might be surprised. I believe the specs for my other amp, the KAC-729, were about 14" by 9" by 2 5/8", and it had room to spare under the driver's seat, and I have the manual seat adjust...I understand the power seats have more room.

Message: The area on the thunderform where the jack is supposed to go is long and narrow. I would say it is 14 or 15" long by 4" wide.

Message: FYI....the only way (as far as I know) you would be able to get an amp to fit in there would be to modify the middle part, and if you do that, I believe you run the risk of cutting into the 'chambers' that house the subs. If that happens, then you've effectively ported the Thunderform, which you don't want to do. MTX says it sounds like @#$@ if you do that.

Message: He said he promises to patch up any holes he would create, but I say if your that skilled in fiberglass, why not just make yourself an enclosure that can accomdate the amps and subs. It has been done several times, but you may have to give up some seat room.

Message: Two things...First, I agree with R/Truck if you are willing to go as far as to mod the TForm you are probably better off with a custom box. Second, a word of warning with the IDQ's The new model "v.2" has a larger magnet structure than previous years. It turns out to be about 1/8" too deep. I found this out the hard way. If you are dead set on the subs or already have them, a work around that seemed to solve the problem for me is to double up on the foam seals (One set comes with the TForm and another with the subs) I tried this and so far have been very pleased. Sorry for being so long. Hope this helps.

Message: I'd have to agree. For the money it costs both to buy the Thunderform and then to have a shop mod it, you can just take out the tray, customize the interior as you see fit, and build a custom box.

Message: thanks for the replys.....i was considering doing my own sub box...and now that you say it i should give it a go...why bother paying 175 when im just gonna modify the damn thing w/ fiberglass anyway... that way i could go w/ 2 12's....2 of those auta sound pretty decent..
has anyone done this before 2 12's under the seat...possible??????? if so, do you know where i could get some pics, for some ideas??????
hey gsrd1...how do you like your idq's v.2 in that box...pretty decent????? better than the 6000's ????? and what amp you got pushin em??
hehe, lol fourgivn....that pretty funny...not sealin up the holes...acutally i think that would be ineffectivly porting, it....lol that would sound like complete butt.
tell me what you guys think though?????? interested in any feedback i can get...thanks again

Message: There was a guy on another R/T site that put 2 JL Audio 12s under the back seat, with the amps up against the back wall.

Message: Sorry for the delayed reply, I am very pleased with the IDQ's. I think that they sound a bit better than the 6000's. As far as loudness they seem to be about equal. I have a Soundstream Rubicon 502 pushin em they're seeing about 250w each. IT all depends on your ears however, IMO The IDQ's are punchy and tight whereas the 6000's have a boomier sound. That R/T that R/Truck mentioned is a nice setup. I'm pretty sure that they had to raise up the backseat about 3" to get clearence for those 12's but It looks very good.

Message: I did ask the guy that owned that setup and he did raise the seat up a few inches. But you have to give up room somewhere.

Message: i read somewhere about putting some washers under the seats (drivers and passengers) maybee that will give you the clearnace you need to fit your amp there?
Dunno.. worth a look... my amp is woo wide, and long to fit under there i am still working on a location. im thinking about moving hte jack to the right side, and mountgin my amp under the seat (right to it) so that when you lift the seat, you see the amp and its right side up. there is enough speace in there i think and it has a cooling fan on the top that would still function well.
mine is (WxHxD) 10-11/16 x 2-1/2 x 14-15/16 inchs
Check the Amp Out
pretty big. Any other Ideas?
