What depth do you have behind the seats (I have buckets) anyways?

My Truck's on order that is. So I do not have a box at all right now. I prefer very large ported boxes tuned real low, but that isn't exactly feasible with my truck and I do not want to do a cut thru into the cab or underneath.

I am 5'9", but I like my seats pretty far back -- I just like the leg room.

With 6-7" you can actually do a lot and get most 10' in there. I just don't know what the depth is so I have to ask you all.

Why use wood? Availablility, machineability (well, easier than fiberglass), it's cheap and works fine at 3/4 for anything you all will be doing. Takes a lot less effort and skill opposed to fiberglass (if you want it to look good; no bubbles). If you have the skill and materials for fiberglass, then go for it, if you don't I would not make this your first project. I would try kick panels or something easier first. Another plus with fiberglass is you can shape it so you can get a lot more room and fit it much better in there and be able to use a different type of woofer or an enclosure more to your specific tastes.

Well, i'm kinda slackin right now in gettin pics done. Recently replaced my Blaupunkt with a Sony CD-LX350, not sure of the spelling....like 180 watts pushin, and wireless remote. Anybody know if we can fit 6.5" speakers in the back speaker holes(behind teh seats)? I'd like to have 6.5s all the way around, and at least one sub behind the seat.....money isn't really an object.

Thin box, real thin box, but TALL box and as wide as you can possibly get it. Move your seat up and you'll get an inch ortwo extra, which can actually be a good chunk of volume.

I've got a Pioneer head unit (DEH-P470H), and just purchased 4 Rockford Fosgate (Ignore my spelling, the boxes are in the truck still) speakers for it. I was going to go Cerwin Vega, but I thought the Rockford's sounded better. Heck, anything is better than the crappy-a$$ ones in the truck right now.

Still, a sub would be nice...

But I can't put it behind the seats! Oh no.. no can do, need that precious space for my Laptop and such when traveling. I was thinking, since I have manual adjustment seats... can you place a sub _under_ the seats? Maybe an 8, in a special box?

Anyone know if it'd fit? Probally have to take the seat out to find out... hmm... project once I'm where it's warm, or have a garage and some spare time!

"can you place a sub _under_ the seats?"

I know a guy who cut holes under his seats and build a box out of fiberglass and weather proof materials that was UNDER the truck. Didn't hang down far at all and had a good seal. He used Oz Audio subs in that setup I think too. Said it took a lot of work and planning, but it really confuses people.

For some reason I don't think that's what you want to do. Maybe you'll be more happy with some mid-bass drivers and have them installed in your doors or somewhere else...

Well, it looks like there is 4-6 inches of possible clearence under the seats... I haven't measured it yet. I'm thinking if it's big enough, I can remove the seat, mount a smallish box or so, then reinstall the seat over it.

Of course, I don't think it'd work at all if I had a power seat... it's worth looking into I suppose. If not, I'll get something for behind the seat, but I'd really hate to loose that space.

I don't think there is AS much of a challenge doing it that way, personally, but if you aren't afraid of a Sawzall and cutting up your truck, then hey, why not!

i have a 98 dakota reg.cab w/bucket seats. i easily installed two 10" JBL GT subs in it. the box i won on ebay, and is 8" at the bottom and 5" at the top. i if you put a cage over the speaker you can put the seat all the way back, because the speaker then sinks into the back of the seat. it makes it much louder. im running a 800 watt PPI amp, let me put it this way, my mirrior turns sideways on a good bass line. it rocks, and i have plenty of room.

Everyone is missing an easy solution to the problem. You can easily put a 6.5 JL Audio 6W-0 in the center console. I have taken my console out to build another to house a JL Audio 10W-6. I should be done later tommorrow considering that we have to go to a range on Saturday. I am in the military, and if all goes as planned I will post pictures and build them for others. It is really no problem to rebuild the console to house the JL 6w-0. That is if you have prior experience... I'll keep in touch... Thanks for the Topic...

THat's only a solution if your answer is you just need a /little/ more bass, but that subs low freq. extention wont come close to the cheapest 10 and 12s.

One easy answer---spend the $300 on a kicker L7 square 10" sub. I have one in my 2002 RC R/T pushed by an alpine V12 w? 400watts. It knocks pretty hard--not as deep as a 12" though. Simply cut the fiber board on the back of the cab and flip the cab vent around to get the box up tight against the cab wll--you can use a box that is about 8" on the bottom and no more than 5" on top. It looks really good, like the box is built into the cab wall and maintains full range of motion for the seat. When I put a 10 behind the passenger seat it will really really knock. The Kicker solo baric L7 is worth every penny-- the best sounding 10 I have ever heard.

has anybody actually tried a 8 or 10 sub under the seat? 4-6 is a decent amount of space, how hard is it to remove the seats?
