Subject: Remote Start With Factory Remote
IP: Logged

Message:
Don't know if this is the right place for this but I figured it was the closet to the topic. Anyway, I have been trying to connect an aftermarket add on remote starter to the factory alarm and keyless entry on a 2003 R/T. According to the instructions, it is possible. I got everything working but the remote start requires (3) one second negative pulses to trigger the process. If I touch the trigger wire for the remote start to ground (a bolt on the truck) three times, it starts. Problem is, I cannot find a wire in the factory wiring harness that will do this. The instructions say to hook it to the factory lock wire and then press the lock button on the factory remote 3 times in a row. I have tried the wire that they gave me in their wiring diagram but it does not work. Has anyone ever done this, or know what wire I need to get the negative pulse? I have tried several different wires and cannot seem to find the right one. Any advice would be appreciate. Thanks!

Since the dakota has a one-wire lock system you can't use the door lock switch wire to turn on the remote start, so you'll have to use the lock motor wire. And that's (+) output when locking. So, you'll have to wire the relay so that the 86 pin is ground, as well as the 30 pin.
The 85 pin would go to the lock motor wire (see tech info sheet for color & location) Then the 87 pin will go to the input / activiation wire of the remote starter.
