Subject: Test Stock Stereo? IP: Logged
Message: I just tried to put a used factory cd player in my 99 Dak and it has no sound, lights or anything. Is there a fuse in the deck itself? What is the 2 prong plug in the top right looking at it from the back? My truck has a small 2 prong plug but it won't fit that. I bought the thing at a garage sale so I guess it could be just junk. Thanks in advance.

Message: There is a small 2 prong black plug coming from the truck wiring. Does anyone know what it is for?

Message: Did you buy a new wiring harness? You need to get a new harness and splice your existing wires into that.

Message: The 2 large plugs from the dash fit right into the stereo. Not sure about the small one though.

Message: It's probably the gound connection.. without that, the stereo will not even come on at all...
all of the factory stereos that I took out before, had a black ground that connected to a small quick-disconnect on the back of the stereo... This is probably the missing link... you can try to give it a temporary ground, by connecting the chassis of the reciever to some bare metal on the truck... just be careful not to short the positive power or memoy leads to the ground wire (just hold the wire on the metal of the stereo's body, and attach it to a good ground)

Message: I know the stock AM/FM stereo doesn't use this plug at all and works fine, hmmm.

Message: the small 2-pin plug is used for the CCD bus connection. It's not required for the radio to work, only for things like the steering wheel controls and speed-controlled volume.
