Hey guys. I have a 93 standard cab and wanted to replace my speakers. The ones that go in the side trim are only 5x7. The size of the space I have to work with means thats the best I am going to get in the stock location. I have a pair of 6x9 sony xplod speakers from my old camaro. Would it be better to get the 6x9 enclosures and use the more powerful speakers? Or should I get the 5x7s to save space. Subs are in the future for this truck so I dont want to completely take up the space behind the seat, because thats the only storage I have. (truck has a 57 bed so I can not find a tonneau cover that fits it.)

your best bet is the 6x9's. can never hear 5x7 in the reg cab if u decide to go sub. if you can i would get some kick panels made to have some front sound too.

unless you are buying higher end speakers than sonys or runnign an amp, it doesnt matter if you use 5x7 or 6x9's. the smaller speakers will more efficently use the power given to them. just becasue your speakers are rated to 200 watts, you head unit (assuming its aftermarket is givign them about 35-40 watts a piece (15w RMS)) i woud recomend using speakers that fit the holes given and thow those sonys away! im not sure what fung was talking about, either speaker will be equally loud to your ear. with what you are trying to do- power, not size makes speakers louder or softer. good luck.

i guess i would agree with "5.9". the 5x7 are room savers, but the 6x9 are good too. i guess i should have said that. but yeah if you do run sub, might wanna run a amp to the other speakers to hear them, the deck wont have much power to the speakers to really play them to the fullest. but if you could get some kick pannels. they help a lot :) also if you havent, get a after market cd player with some power

Thanks guys
I think ill go with the 6x9s since I already have them, its just one less thing to spend money on right now. I have a CD player, its got 45x4 watts.

DO they make custom kickpanels for my truck?? they dont make custom ANYTHING for my truck it seems. I upgraded (slightly) the speakers in the door, can i run door speakers and kickpanels?

well since you have speaker in the doors then you really dont need the kick pannels. from what ive seen in the reg cabs is that they didnt have door speakers from the factory, but since you have door spekers that is a BIG plus. as for running the door and kick pannels, you can, but there will be a lot of wiring to be done. unless you just run the wires from the back to the kick and such. there is many ways to do it, but it requires amping in my view if you do it. but i havnt seen kick pannels made from the other companys, so your best bet is to make them your self. lataz

Yep, it has factory wiring going to the doors and everything. The door actually has 2 little grill thingys for speakers, i wonder if i can run two speakers in series. (Or parallell? Im talking about running the negative wire to the negative of one speaker, the positive wire to the positive of the other speaker, adn connect the remaining two connections of the speakers)
