Subject: Front doors: 5 ¼ 3-ways vs. 6 ½ 2-ways

I have an 02 CC. Bought and installed Pioneer 6 ½-in. 3-ways in the back, they sound great. Crutchfield said the same 6 ½-in 3-way Pioneers would NOT fit in the front doors so I bought the 5 ¼-in. 3-way Pioneers instead. I have not installed the 5 ¼’s up front yet.

Before I put them in, wanted to ask two questions: does anyone know if the Pioneer 6 ½-in. 3-ways really don’t fit in the front? Lots of 2-way speakers that size seem to.

Second, if they really don’t fit, is it better to use the 5 ¼ in. 3-ways that I bought, or return them for some 6 ½-in. 2-ways of roughly equal cost. How much difference is there between 2-way vs. 3-way? Is it worth going with the smaller size?

I listen to a broad range of music, and clarity and quality of sound is most important. Bass is not the highest priority, though I do like reggae, electronic and rap, too.

I’m working off the factory head unit (mostly just use XM satellite), though will likely install an amp fairly soon.

Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have Boston Acoustic RX67 speakers in my front doors and they are listed as replacements for the stock 6 1/2 " speakers. I had no problems putting them in.
