Message: sure you can, just find a amp that takes high/low level inputs as well as rca's
youll have to do some wire cutting,
just find the speaker wire colors off of the back of you factory deck, cut and leave plenty of room(incase you want to reverse this for any reason) you run the speaker outs from the radio into the hi/low level inputs for the amp and amp to speakers, viola

Message: I don't know about hooking up an amp to your radio. I would like to tell you a little story. I had a 2003 PT crusier with a Chrysler Radio and I tried to have an amp hooked up to it. The install shop could not do anything with the radio because of the circuitry in the radio. If you notice, you can turn the radio up and it will not distort. It has some sort of feedback circuit in it that requires it to be directly connected to the speakers to work or it will go nuts. The install shop spent a day on it, and could not get it to work even with the speaker level inputs on the amp. This only happens on the round faced radios like in your 2004. The best bet is to remove it and buy a new head unit. This was my experience. Maybe there is some magical thing that has been invented since my attempt that might work. Good luck!
