Message: Hi, i need some help with choosing an amp. i have a 03 sxt reg cab, and am about to get subs but i have no idea where to start for choosing an amp. i don't know much at all about amps since i'm new to the audio thing and i only have limited knowledge of speakers and such. i get confused about things like 2 or 4 ohms and multichannel amps and mono sub amps. if it's mono does that mean it only runs one sub or can it run a pair of subs and nothing else? i haven't made up my mind on subs yet either but i think i'm going to get some Power Acoustic 10" FUBR series (2 of them) for $80 each. i'm on a budget so i'm trying to find some nice stuff for the price. If i don't get those then i'm thinking about 2 12" pioneers that walmart sells, cheapass i know, but they would serve as some to learn on and fill in till i saved up for some really nice subs and they only cost like $60 each. those are my two main choices, but i saw some MTX Thunder 8000's (T8124A) for $100 on the cardomain store. again i'm on a budget and need a good amp that would power any one of these 3 kinds of subs and is priced well (maybe about $300). i'm going to keep the stock speakers for a while but on the EQ options of my headunit how would i eliminate speaker bass and make bass come through the subs only? someone told me i would need a crossover so i acted like i knew what he was talking about but i need someone to explain this also if it's not much trouble. if you have any suggestions on subs priced about the same as these feel free to suggest them too. Thanks for any help offered, i appreciate it. sorry for the long post.
($80 on cardomain) Power Acoustic FUBR 10" - 1800w max, 600rms
($60-70 at walmart) Pioneer 12" - 600w max, 150rms
($100 on cardomain) MTX Thunder 8000 12" - 800w max, 400rms

Message: I think the Power acoustic subs would be a better buy for you. As far as an amp goes..If you get those subs, I would go with this one..(http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWA1800DB). If you go this route, carefull wiring them! If you wire them wrong that amp will blow em up! Check out sounddomains wiring options.

Message: hmmm, i like those subs and i probably will end up getting them, but i don't trust myself on the wiring thing if it's gonna be that risky. if i got that amp and the subs, could you tell me how much a car audio shop should charge me and what you would pay for a shop to wire it? i can make the boxes myself cause i used to do some carpentry. if i get anything i'll probably get it professionally wired but i don't want to get ripped off. i just don't know what the average cost should be for them to do it for me. Thanks for the info.

Message: An amp install can go for around $100.00. Might be less if you install it and go somewhere that's nice enough to show you or tell you how to wire your subs. Unless anyone else on here can help talk you through it.

Message: BTW...If you do get those subs and amp, What you're looking for is how to wire (2)dual 2ohm subs to draw a 2ohm load off the amp.

Message: alright, i have got two ten inch FUBR's, a power acoustic LT-980 watt amp, and a rockford fosgate 4g. wiring kit. I haven't built the boxes yet but am going to over the weekend. total cost was about $500. i think the wiring kit came with everything needed, but i'm probably going to need something to go by since the directions that came with everything are a little confusing to me. does anyone know a good website i could go to that might have some better diagrams or explain what to do better? if you have any other info you think i need to know then my e-mail is fisher4224@aol.com
thanks for all the help. i really appreciate any advice.

Message: Polyfill is used to "trick" the sub into thinking the box is bigger than it really is. I think it's about 1lb per cu ft. Usually if I build a box to a woofers specs, I'll use some to compensate for the subs basket and the speaker wire taking up air space.
I just built a box for 4 10" Kappa perfects(sealed). I used 3/4" mdf, wood glued each joint when assembling, and clear silicon sealant along every joint inside each chamber(Might have been alittle much but, Not a single vibration, no air escapes, and the sound is unbelievable).

Message: rockfordfosgate.com is a good site to check out for wiring diagrams and figuring out box dimensions.
Make sure to add in the displacement of the sub when figuring out your box dimenions, .8 cuft recommended air volume + .06 cuft speaker displacement will require a .86 cuft box.
The best way to know what fiber fill does for a sub is to install the subs without it, play it for a couple of days, then add polyfil to the boxes. You will hear the difference. 1 lb per cuft is a good starting point, you might have to add more or take some out. I normally add 1 lb/cuft, hear what it sounds like and add more or take some out to get the sound I like. adding a couple hands full of polyfil can change the sound of the sub.
Glue and screw the box (MDF preferred), silicone the interior seams and wire hole/terminal cup and foam tape the subs sealing surface.

Message: could someone with a genIII reg cab post what they've done to get a little more space? i've got one of the boxes built, although i might do another to replace it since it's so big. the mounting depth of my subs are 5 1/4" so these are the dimensions for my "test" box: 9.5" bottom depth, 3" top depth, 20" wide, 15" tall. with this box it seems pretty crammed for me if i were to drive with it back there. i'm 6'2". i left about a half inch between the seat and sub for it's excursion. can i take out the back carpet panel that goes from the floor up to back window and get any more room or could i go with a smaller box? i have to keep the bottom depth because the magnet bottomed out on my other box. it calls for .50 cu.ft. thankyou CC, SQDak, and DSW for all the advice, it would have made it much harder without it. thanks again.
