Message: ok i got a weird question. i have to RF 10 inch subs. and a nice 500 watt MTX amp to power them. i am inbetween cars right now. so in a few weeks i'm taking the subs out of my truck and i'm gunna store them here in my dorm room till i find a new truck. so i was wondering does anyone know what kinda addapter, ac to dc, that i would need to run my MTX amp to power the speakers. do they make a converter to do this? and if so how many amps do you think i would need?

Message: You need a 12 volt DC power supply. Unfortunately, getting one that can supply sufficient current is the real trick. You'll be looking at about $100 for one that can supply 10 amps (realistically.)

Message: ok so that is gunna be a bit pricy. what about using an old home sterio reciever to power them? i know my subs are 4 ohm. so i could wire them so that they pull 8 ohms. and i think that would work for any home sterio thingy. is there anything i need to worry about if i try this? how do i find out if the reciever is 2, 4 or 8 ohm stable? i'm not looking to burn up my reciever.

Message: How do you plan on crossing them over? If you play them full-range, they'll sound horrible. Woofers aren't designed to play anything over about 300 Hz, and suffer bad cone breakup above 1 kHz.

Message: yea the home sterio amplifier i have has an eqalizer. i was planning on just turning everything else down except the lowest frequency on the EQ. is there any way to figure out how many ohms this amp can handle without just hooking it up?
