Subject: Fiberglass bottom sub box IP: Logged
Message: Hello to all.
I am looking into making a sub box to fit under the rear seats of my extended cab. I will be attempting to fiberglass the bottom to fit in nice and snug. My plan is to make an mdf frame and then fiberglass to that. Any suggestions? Tips? Has anyone done this yet? Any plans or measurements or anything that could help. Please and thank you.

Message: cool, when i built mine i built a wood frame with no bottom or top obviously. then i layed down aluminum foil on the floor of the truck so that i would get the perfect shape and it wouldnt stick to the floor. then i layed the frame in its proper place and slapped on a layer of fiberglass. once the first layer was dry i took the box out and applied about 3 or 4 more layers. i weight 250 lbs and i could stand on my glass and it didnt even bend much less crack so 7 or 8 layers is not nessasery even tho most people will tell you that. once that was done i screwed down the top, cut the holes, and siliconed it all up. then i carpeted it for good looks. good luck.

Message: Well thank you very much for that. That is pretty much the plan that I have. Do you now what measurements you used for the frame? I'm not sure how long I am wanting to make it. Also what was your height. Thank you.

Message: mine was for a 92 so it is probably different. i just ripped the old box out and made it like an inch higher than that one in the front because the hinges have adjustment on them and you need the depth for your subs. and i made it like a inch longer so i had a very tight fit and that killed alot of the rattling. i also bolted it down over a layer of foam batting to prevent rattle. another thing i did was but sone eighth inch aluminum plates in my seats and zipped them up in there so that when people sit on the seats they dont flex into the sub. hope this helps.
