my question is, how the hell can a kid who just bought a couple of 50 dollar audiobahn 12's, with a 700 watt alpine amp, with a sealed box that some jerk off built in like 10 minutes out of ply wood and caulk, bump as hard as the two jl audio W3V2's that cost 219 bucks a piece plus tax, and my 400 dollar memphis power reference amp, and my specially ordered box built to fire my subs down and its ported that cost me 150 bucks, i had "the pros" put everything in and my amps turned up pretty good with a stock battery and all that, but what the hell is happening in this universe?!?! i just want to know why i spent a thousand dollars when i couldve spent half that for the same out come...

if your talking about how far the sound carries on the outside, like how far away u can be heard, forget it. ur friend i take it doesnt have a dak. the daks dont carry sound well. i had 4 jlw3's in a wall with 2500 watts in my cc 99 dak. it was very loud but just didnt carry well. i dont know why dodge dakotas dont carry sound far? by the way i hit a 151db.

1st, you paid for a name. JL's are a respected company, and you paid for their reputation. And cheap amps are usually fine for subs because clairty is not an issue, driving power is. Sealed boxes are usually a little crisper sounding vs. ported.

And who cares how far sounds travels outside your car? I had a VW Jetta with a pair of 12's that pushed 131db, and you could barely hear it outside. PERFECT! I paid for me to hear it, not the guy next to me.

It was explained to me by the guy at the sound-off that it's the heaver gauge steel used in my VW that was containing the sound pressures. Looking at the Hondas, you could see the roofs vibrating. Perhaps Dak's are just built too good. :)

Yea, you paid for the name. It also depends on where he got everything. My buddy got 12" Audiobahns in a really nice box for dirt cheap b/c he bought em from the flea market. All depends on where you get it, who you get it from (some people will rape you on the price of things) and exactly how you have them setup.

Audiobahns can knock like hell, but sound like crap when doing so when compared to JLs. I think the SQ sucks a big one when it comes to Audiobahns. I would never be caught alive running some of those. However, the install is half the battle, and with a crappy built box everything will sound like crap. Be happy you got those JLs they can knock if given proper power and are wired in the most benficial way. I would take a JL w0 (the lowest, cheapest model) over any Audiobahn p.o.s. anyday.

*who really cares how loud it is outside the car anyways?*
