Subject: systems in and now I can't hear again IP: Logged
Message: Well I went a whole 1000km with the stock stereo..before I lost it and tore it out. Started yesterday at noon and lost more hearing by 6pm.
I went simple again but but she sure pounds in the cab.
most items came from my 02 cc.
Blaupunt Santa monica cd deck(the blue lights look great with the dash almost a stock look)
Concept cfn-650 6.5 2ways in the front doors(they have a silk dome tweeter so they sound great..not sharp and shrilling) even better than lots of separates out there.
Rears I left stock .. set very low level on them so they don't screw up the imaging..I may replace with a 6.5 mid if I can get the x-over points right with coils, I don't want to install my active xover cuz space is premium in these trucks. the rear panels are directing the air so they almost work like a ported box. a good 6.5 in there would surely pound..but the plastic would buzz like crazy.
Sub is 1 concept CFT-104 10"(i'll be replacing with a cex-104 dvc ) in a .5cuft box..I placed this on the passenger side rear seat firing towards the drivers side. It loads nicely and pounds. yes I lose 8 inches of seat this box was a proto so see how I liked the sound. My goal is to get this down to 7.5 inches deep and make it look like an armrest on the passenger side.
Under the rear seat I have placed a soundstream 405s 5 channel amp in the large opening, it fits across the hole and mounts very nice. the seat does touch it very slightly at the very back and I may raise the seat 1/4inch..nobody sits back there ever.
I will have to replace the cd player..lots of miles on this one(3rd truck) it starts to skip when the rumbling really gets going.
once I get a digi cam I'll post some pics.
the bottom line is you don;t need a pile of the newest gear to sound great. Pick your components carefully and take your time setting things up and you can sound awesome and you have to decide on quality or quantity. at some point enough is enough and hearing is not replacable. Use good wire and connections..draw it out/plan it and do it!
Oh and read everything you can find!!! forums/mags websites and ungodly long posts
