Subject: 02 Head change and door dinger IP: Logged
Message: Hey, I just bought an 02 CC and though I am happy with the stock head unit, I have a Kenwood KDCMP222 from my previous vehicle. Are there any systems connected with the factory head that would deter me from problem free installation of my Kenwood or is it plug and play? I plan on ordering an installation kit and speaker adaptors from Crutchfield...
Also, is there anyway to eliminate the door dinger? Its really annoying if I want to have the radio on and door open. I looked under the dash and it sounds as if the dinger is built into some kind of control module on the kick panel with 3 wiring harnesses in it...
If this is where it is coming from, could I just tear apart that module and remove the speaker from the circuit board or is there and easier way?

Message: If you want to listen to the tunes with the doors open just turn the key forward instead of back then the dinger stops

Message: On my 2004 Dak I hooked up a meter to check current drain on the battery.
Results:
-Key on acc = .5 amps
-Key on run (engine not running) = 2.12 amps
-Key off, door open (interior lights on) = 2.47 amps
Conclusion: with key in the run mode it draws about the same current as with the door open with the lights on.
Hope this helps.

Message: I discovered how to stop the binger on my 2004 QC. Open drivers door, take a screwdriver and push the latch down inside the door jam. Put a chair or something against the door to remind you to put the latch back up, or you can't close the door.

Message: I can pull the key out just enough to stop the door dinger, even when turned forward or back. Might be a fluke.
