Subject: new reciever and electrical problem IP: Logged
Message: just installed my new clarion dxz455 and the sound only works if my interior dashboard dimmer switch is all the way up. the other problem is it always has power. even when the truck is off it stays on??? any ideas why this is?

Message: Sounds like you have the red wire, which should be wired to the 12v ignition wire, wired to a constant 12v supply. You need to check the wiring again and use a voltmeter or test light to make sure the red wire is only wired to a 12v source that can be turned on and off with the key. The yellow wire on the unit needs to be wired to a constant 12v. This keeps the memory stored in the unit. Time, stations, settings, etc.

Message: thanks ill check that out but what about why it only makes sound when the dash dimmer switch is in a certain spot????

Message: does your head unit have a wire for dimmer control via the dashboard control? could you have hooked this wire to the power lead? since you hooked into some kind adjustable voltage lead you aren't giving the head unit the current it needs so it only comes on "in a certain spot" because that's the only time it's getting full power
