Subject: Amp installation.
IP: Logged

Message:
This is the 3rd time I've tried to post this, I can figure out these forums, but anyways.. I have a 97 Extended Cab. I have Alpine Head unit, a type R sub, and a alpine MRD-M500. I have purchased an amp kit to get all the things I need to install it, but I'm not 100% sure on all that I need to do.

First, Where should I mount the sub? Should I put it under the seat, on the box, or elsewhere?
Second, where should I drill the hole in the firewall to put the wire through? Should I run the power wire on the passenger side, even thought the battery is on the drivers side?
Third, on the RCA cables, there is a smaller wire that I thought was for the remote turn on, but I have another wire for that.

Thanks for any and all help in advance!

The small wire on the preamps is so you can ground it at both ends if you choose. It elimates cross talk. You really don't want to you it as a rem turn-on lead as even that low of voltage can cause havic on your line level cables..

I am a car audio installer so what im telling you is the best for your sound. I'm pretty sure that there is a very large grommet on the driver side where you can run you power wire through. you will see a lot of factory wires going through there. Make sure that you fuse the power wire at least 18 inches from the battery or your insureance will be vioded if you have a problem. you will have to run the rca's and the remote turn on wire down the pass side. you can place the amplifier under the seat or on the back of the box. for your ground wire you should try to find a bolt, such as a seat belt bolt or any other bolt that is very secure. your box should be on the back seat facing towards the rear of the truck for the best sounding bass. make sure the sub isnt going to hit the back of the seat. if you have any other questions post back and i will check up and see how your doing! enjoy!

You don't need to drill a hole in the firewall, there is already a nice big grommet going through the firewall by the steering shaft. Just push your cables through that.
