Subject: Little help on choosing amps IP: Logged
Message: Hey, I'm kinda new to building my own audio systems.
I have two Audiobahn Eternal 10" subs. They run at 900w RMS and are 4ohm dual voice coils. What should I get to power both of these?
Thanks in Advance

Message: holy crap thats alot RMS dude but get something that is 1ohm stable so you can run them in parrelel to 1ohm, get the most current from ya amp to. now for an amp, id suggest a solid 1500+ amp. 1st id check ebay for earthquake amps, jbl i think makes a 2000w amp, hifonics 1500 is a nice amp for 250$, or a mean machine 2400w amp would be perfect if you got the cash. check ebay and type in like 1800w,2000w,2200,2400w amp and see what comes up. o ya make sure its 2400 watts @1ohm or higher and is stable at 1ohm.
if you are running that much power, make sure your power wire is big enough to run that much current, u have a big good ground, and a good battery, alternator, and/or cap.

Not quite, your going to be running the subs at 1 ohm, this is what the amp is going to see, so you will be running the "amp" into a 1 ohm load.
With the DVC subs you have, you can run a 1 ohm load or a 4 ohm load, depends on how you hook them up. If you run the all subs in parallel (all sub + connected to the amps + and all sub - connected to the amps -) you will get a 1 ohm load. If you run the subs in a series/parallel configuration you will get a 4 ohm load. There are 2 ways to configure these subs to get a 4 ohm load just to confuse the matter even more.
If you don't know how wire up the subs to get the proper ohm load, go to rockfordfosgate.com and check out their section for wiring up multiple speakers. Make sure you have the subs configured for the proper ohm load (1 or 4) or make sure you get an amp that's stable at 1 ohms "BRIDGED". If you get an amp that's only stable at 4 ohm's bridged and run the subs at 1 ohm, your going to toast the amp :-(
A 1 ohm load will be realy loud with reduced sound quality, while a 4 ohm load won't be as loud with better SQ. Running a 1 ohm load will make the amp produce more power, while running a 4 ohm load restricts the amp and it won't produce as much power, well that's if your amp can go down to a 1 ohm load.
