Message: I have never even heard of putting a component set in the rear. They are designed with the tweaters and they are supposed to be placed in teh front for optimal performance.
Good luck with them in the rear.

Message: I have Infinity 605cs Reference series components in the front and rear, sounds great! My install probably won't help though, it's a 2000 CC. I mounted the back tweeters high in the rear pillars, directing the tweeter to the center of the truck. Don't know how they sound for back seat passangers though, I wasn't concerned about what the stereo sounds like in the back seat ;-)
If your concerned about tweeter placement, hook the tweeters to 10-15' of wire and tape them down to different places in the truck until you find a spot that sounds good, then mount them. I imagine the tweeters would probably sound best for the rear passangers by mounting the tweeters in the top of the rear door panels, though this might not be the best placement for the front passangers.

Message: I have two sets of Focal components in my QC. The reaer set is in the doors, and I mounted the tweeter to the top-front of the door panel.
Yes, I had to cut a hole for it. I figure when it's time to part with the truck, if I want the Focal's back, I will get a set of cheap tweets to mount with the stock door speakers.
I like the sound from a 4 speaker setup, and I also "crosswire" the front and rear speakers. Crosswire means to wire the left rear speaker to the right rear channel and right rear speaker to the left rear channel.
Some may not like crosswiring as it can affect the front "sound stage", but my opinion is that in a moving, noisy, truck cab, the sound stage is not that noticable anyway (unless you are parked somewhere...). Crosswiring can enhance the stereo effect.

Message: I have two pair of kicker k65.2's mids in the doors tweets are on the plastic just before the cloth roof. Took some getting used to compaired to stock, but with the help of my trusty SFEQ built into my trusty pioneer premier HU I calmed the rear tweets (or rather upped the highs and lows in the front and the lows in the rear) High pass turned to 80 all the lows going out the sub outs to two jbl 10's in a box where the small seat in the rear used to be. Not too bad a setup. Really plays rock well, most rap is pretty good except for the real lows, techno is about the same as rap but the highs can really scream when needed. Considering trading the two 10's for a good 12. Don't want to go with a 15 although there is more than enough space with the seat removed, because I don't want to loose too much high end bass that the mids in the doors just can't pull. The reason I went with this setup over attaching the tweets to the mids is because I spend a lot of time driving with all the windows down and driving 60, so I still wanted to be able to hear the words not just the beat.

Message: Quick question for ya'll. Who makes the best component speakers for f/r doors for a '99 durango? I was looking at the Apline Type S, but the Infinity set can handle more power. What are your recommendations? Thanks.

Message: Matt,
It's personal preference, I liked the Infinity 605cs's because they had silk dome tweeters, not as harsh sounding as mylar, titanium, etc.
Listen to the speakers you are considering and make the decision from there. I realy like the Infinity 605cs components, but you might like other speakers better. When I bought the speakers it all came down to which speakers sounded best for the price. I picked up 2 pair of 605cs components off Ebay for $150, one set $90 and the other $60. If money is not a consideration you can get better.

Message: I chose Infinity 60.5cs components for the front and 62.5i 2-ways for the rear of my Durango. I like them very much so far. They have handled every watt ive thrown at them so far and sound clear the entire time. I got mine off of ebay for a little over $225 total. Just watch and be patient and you can get killer deals.
I did look at the Alpines and the 605cs Infinity Reference series and think i would have been satisfied with either as they are all quality products. I just liked the extra power the Kappa series could handle for the price.

Message: Hey matt, i am an installer and i install the alpine's all the time and they will take more power then they say they do. they will also sound great if you are going to amplify them. i hate the sound that the infinity puts out.

Message: Matt, you should look into Diamond Audio, as far as I am concerned the best buy for any price range. Onlinecarstereo.com for $230 get the m6 set. If you have a good amp you will not be disappointed what so ever.
